x2

all this fussing about FWD vs RWD. Its ridiculous.

Ive had numerous cars in FWD that did many things better than RWD, and the reverse. Cars are built to a purpose or demographic, being angry that a company that traditionally makes RWD has a FWD offering is preposterous. Why should they be denied that potential market share because it offends ones sense of right?

If a person doesn't like that model, a person doesn't have to own it. At the end of the day its sales that dictate whats popular or not

silly if you ask me.

I like the Leaf. The Volt is the one that I find ugly. The rear end kills it for me.

Hope I get the pleasure of seeing one of those sorry excuses for a BMW in flames by the side of the road one day so I can drive by and give the idiot sheepsumers who bought it the one-finger salute. Flunk-wheel-drive. Mandatory limpdick-o-matic transmission. *grumble*
Jeez, don't have a cow man.

I stick with my E30 for a reason.

I don't see what the big deal is. The "purists" had a heart attack when Mercedes first went front wheel drive 15 years ago. If anything BMW is behind the curve.

I've only seen a few on the street but I too think it's an attractive car. The concept has promise, not sure how many people are going to want to drive a car where the rpms stay pretty much constant. Methinks the vroom-vroom sound of going through the gears is deeply ingrained in the automotive experience.

I read years ago of Burt Rutan recommending just such a concept for maximum efficiency and range. I wish I had a friend who had one so I could ride in or drive one.

The older I get the more I'm seeing the attraction of Lexus over the German companies. Well made, quite, doesn't break.

Heck, after having a BMW in the shop for 4 weeks in the last 6 months I'm beginning to see that.

Lets put it this way, I'd lease a new high end German car because some of them especially say the new S550 are so complicated that owning one out of warranty would be downright scary. Anyone want to guess how much Magic Body Control will cost to fix in 8-10 years?

OTOH I wouldn't have any heartburn owning a big Lexus out of warranty.

This.

When I see the ads touting this or that high tech feature I'm wondering if the car will be inoperable if (and when) that thing breaks.

That's why the 'drive themselves' car worry me. What if something in that goes bad w/o warning, which is the way things usually go bad.

last fall/winter I had the timing chain done by a local guy here on the wifes 85 123.
While it was there, the guy was telling me about some suspension work he was doing on I believe a 2010 (not sure the year). He was installing a single used front shock assembly, and had paid 700 bucks for that out of a yard, vs the 2500 bucks new. To replace one bad shock on the much newer mercedes was more expensive that the entire timing chain job plus valve adjustment he did on the wifes car.

No thanks, I do not think the driving experience outweighs the cost on high end cars, much rather have something that rides ok or even well, and when it breaks, doesn't break the bank

This is why my attorney leases his.

Some models are better than others, IE a basic E or C class would be fairly easy to keep on the road.

But their is a reason the high end loaded models have a depreciation curve that looks like a cliff. The people who can afford them new no longer want them and have moved on, the people who can buy them now can't afford to fix them.
