I certainly didn't need the $84 (?)worker credit sent my way for 2 years. Multiply that by how many millions of TP's in my bracket? Also, IIRC, the multiplier effect was diminished by people paying down consumer debt back then.

Sorry to hear that but glad you rebounded so quickly.
Did the Govt. stimulus help you find your new job?

I would not know if your assumption that you were not out of work 5 years ago is correct. I was not, but was in an industry which was directly positively impacted by ARRA.

I bet you actually believe that. The number of people suffering from loss of jobs is staggering. the debt has doubled ( after Obama said that Busg's $7T debt was "unpatriotic". The "stimulus" money is still being dolled out to democrats, and we all, and out grandchildren will be paying for that.
Face it, the dems have run this economy into a rathole.

For the reasons listed here - The stimulus act was a success - I think you are completely wrong about the ARRA. I'm not offering that link as authoritative. It just summarizes the situation.

Right. That's why the economy was losing 800,000 jobs a month when Obama took office. Many of the projections made about the ARRA - the extent to which it would reduce unemployment being the most prominent - were actually close to the mark in terms of the effect the stimulus would have. The reason they have been portrayed in such a poor light was that nobody - literally nobody - knew in late 2008 just how big a hole W left behind.

I'm no economist. You might be able to make an argument for your position about the ARRA (if so, you will be the first to do it, AFAIK), but to suggest that the GOP had no role in our current economic difficulties seems less than objective to me.

No idea. I would imagine it did to some degree. More money in the economy means more people buying goods. The bail out for GM did help me as there is a GM plant here and those were people I did not need to compete with them to find a job. So I guess yes it did.

Running counter current? I agree with your point too bad BHO didn't get to grab the horns a year earlier, then what happened between 6 years ago and 5 years ago might not have. Would make this look unnecessary:

Lets remember that the Bush White House as the democrat-controlled Congress cooperated in some very bad legislation that led to the financial disaster. There is plenty of blame to go around--even though every partisan sees only the fault of the other side.

Is that an observation, or an admission?

Impeccable source!

Bush sucked. Obama may suck less, the jury is still out. He's still got a couple more years to not F things up more to solidify his position as "Not as bad as Bush."

The bar hasn't been set very high and there is some question whether he'll be able to clear it.

The Republicans had majorities in both houses for more than 5 of Bush's 8 years. Because of 9/11, the Republicans also controlled the media for his first 5 or so years, which partially explains why the Democrats followed along like sheep.

No doubt. The authorization to use force in Iraq being the most obvious example.
