Carbon vs Steel

Who's Going To Win, Carbon Fiber Or Steel - YouTube

We all know that CF is strong and light (and very expensive) . . . but how convinced are we?

Unobtanium?

If CF was somehow superior to steel Mercedes would have built the W123 out of it. Clearly its not.

Do they use epoxy resin with the carbon fiber? Pricey. I have carbon fiber masts on my Sea Pearl 21. If one of them broke, I think I would have to pay close to the price I paid for the whole boat just to replace it.

Even F1 cars weren't made of carbon fiber yet when they started making w123s. I've thought about the use of CF in a 123 chassis before. A full CF chassis would be much lighter, but you'd have to do something about the cast iron engine or the weight distribution would be horrible.
