I would be too much of a chicken to walk inside one of those out of fear that something would come crashing down or a cave-in ... But, they do look pretty awsome.

Can I get to Mackinaw Island by foot? I saw something yesterday that said the GLakes were 97% frozen over or something. Lots of down time for the shipping industry & mariners.

I saw something on TV yesterday showing similar spectacular
ice formations on lake Superior in northern Wisconsin. Truly incredible stuff. (sorry no link)

Yes but a snowmobile is strongly encouraged.

When I went thru there in Aug. '98 enroute to Harley's 95th in Milwaukee, I remember seeing signs in Mackinaw City that said "No snowmobiles on the sidewalk", or something like that. We rode around the UP and I wondered at the time just what the folks up there did in the winter? I came up with two likely possibilities: F**k & Fish!
If I'm right, OBGYNs will be busy come the fall.
