My guess is that by jerkin the gerkin, you don't have offspring. Less offspring, less converts for the sad faith. Smaller bunch, less clout and higher chances of somebody stomping on them.

let it be marked down on the score board that I totally agree with Aklim in this matter. I believe it may be the second time in 8 years.

Which reminds me... the airport called. They want you to turn that thing down because it is starting to interfere with the radar

While many seek leadership in a variety of ways, it is senseless when a religious group enters ones sexual life with a goal of repression. This amounts to inhuman cruelty. Even worse, look at the kind of humans who develop from this kind of over-reaching repression.....

I got my first inclination that there might actually be a downside to masturbation from Philip Roth. I think it might have been the book 'When She Was Good,' not sure but he referred to a teenage classmate of one of the characters as a 'haggard masturbator.'

It can sap the psychic and/or physical energy of one to some extent. When I was about 17, the Bishop (the leader of the local Mormon congregation) called me in for a meeting and in the middle of the rap, asked me if I masturbated, and in a sort of exasperated tone, like he wondered how one might be such a fool to do so. I told him in no uncertain terms, 'nope, not me,' or something. I was armed with all the info that it's OK, pay no attention to the guilt tripping, etc. And I agree that it's not a horrible thing, no need for guilt, which does no good anyway.

My regret is that the fellow didn't understand the topic in any depth. He was unable to explain things in any way that increased my knowledge. The Chinese medicine traditions hold that excessive masturbation is a problem. It not only saps the body, it keeps the mind fixated on fantasies and regrets. Not present. Present would be having long, slow, and satisfying tantric sex.

My Zen teacher once shared a koan:

"Let go of the ox you are searching for, instead reach down and touch the ox you are riding on. But don't use your hand."

And then he added in grave tones: "And the don't use your hand part . . . very important."

I will add that this fellow was a serious babe magnet. Was always having to send woman away who were fixated on his bed chambers. True story.

I'd almost like to read Roth again. Think I will. Surely there's one of his I missed.

Actually, MANY that I haven't read. Here's a list of his writings from Wikipedia:

Quote:
Novels:

Zuckerman:
The Ghost Writer (1979)
Zuckerman Unbound (1981)
The Anatomy Lesson (1983)
The Prague Orgy (1985)

(The above four books are collected as Zuckerman Bound)
The Counterlife (1986)
American Pastoral (1997)
I Married a Communist (1998)
The Human Stain (2000)
Exit Ghost (2007)

Kepesh:
The Breast (1972)
The Professor of Desire (1977)
The Dying Animal (2001)

Other:
Goodbye, Columbus (1959)
Letting Go (1962)
When She Was Good (1967)
Portnoy's Complaint (1969)

Our Gang (1971)
The Great American Novel (1973)
My Life As a Man (1974)
Deception: A Novel (1990)
Operation Shylock: A Confession (1993)
Sabbath's Theater (1995)
The Plot Against America (2004)
Everyman (2006)
Indignation (2008)
The Humbling (2009)
Nemesis (2010)

Non-fiction:
The Facts: A Novelist's Autobiography (1988)
Patrimony: A True Story (1991)
I'm pretty sure the bolded are ones I read. Saw the movie 'Goodbye Columbus,' hardly counts. I'll find some dart throwing method to decide which one to read next.

The guilt tripping is not good. But I maintain, masturbation inhibits ultimate babe magnetism. Not only does spilling the seed sap your physical vitality - I'm talking daily doers - it makes you less horny. When you want a woman so bad you can feel it in your corpuscles, she can feel it too, don't ask me how, either energy field or pheremones or the look in your eyes. If you're not hideously repulsive, it can turn her on.

May just be the chronic bulge in your pants though. . Or maybe I am wrong and it is just your tongue hanging out. Not to worry though as saving it for your old age will still give you something to hang your coat on.

It was tough in elementary school at times. I thought I may grow up as a severe hunchback for a couple of years there. Every time we had to stand up as a class. Or even as a single indivifual it being still worse . I had a seemingly spontainious errection to minumise. This seemed to occurr a short period of time before I or the class stood. It seemed to sequence somehow automatically with the unknown time of having to stand for something or another.

Maybe I should have been a sperm donor. Except it goes against a religious based belief. You know the one. Spare the rod and spoil the child.
