I guess I am viewing it differently since I work on actual computer systems all day. These new cars like the W213 are essentially just a complex computer, multiple modules communicating with numerous networked parts. With the right software and systems to analyze it....no harder to work on than a mechanical car. The difference is that the person needs to understand computerized systems.

I like how they avoided driving through San Francisco or any other part of the bay area that might have traffic. They took the 280 instead of the 101 through the peninsula again to avoid real world traffic, bypassed the east bay, McArthur maze and the bay shore. You know, all the roads normal people use to get from point A to point B in the Bay Area. This trip reads like a list of the least busy roads in the Bay Area and Central Valley. They might as well be driving on the moon.

Some comparison test
Not everyone on the planet lives in a city, and besides the MB's city driving mode was not working properly by shutting off when the car was not moving. Citiots are just that.

Well then I guess you could say the E250 diesel is THE CAR for the antisocial class. Too bad those aren't generally the type of people that can afford a $52,000 car. I predict it won't be a big seller. Besides when you're spending that kind of coin why wants to give up 100hp from the normal E class just so they can claim they drove a little further on a tank?

I dunno about that. An E class that gets well over 40 MPH on the hiway and is awd is very appealing. Plus, as noted the car appears to have lots of pull.

Nah they will sell a ton of them because like the 4 cylinder 5 series it will be the lease special and the cheapest E class they offer.

MB like BMW needs to to get their CAFE ratings up so they can keep selling AMG's and big S class's.

GM is doing the same thing now with the new V6 Silverados. Pushing them cheap over the V8's to get those CAFE ratings up.

Remember most new E class buyers are like my attorney. They don't give a crap whats under the hood and never even open it. They just want a nice midsized sedan they can lease for $500-$600 a month.

The E350 is the lease special. Each dealer has 10 E350s in stock for every E250 diesel. Besides if you're buying or leasing a $52000 car you can afford the gas and you want that extra 100hp for the same money.

I recall a conversation with our local MB dealer about used MB diesels.

The two takeaways were a much lower lease percentage for the diesels vice gassers, and he rarely got a diesel trade with low mileage and/or as new as the average gasser.

The profile for the diesel buyer was quite different from the gasoline buyer...

Mercedes C300 BluTEC Hybrid

4 cyl 2.1L turbo diesel + 21 hp electric motor = 65 MPG (European standards), 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and 152 MPH.
