Uh, they need visas. If you are interested , you will need to go get one, like I did 16 years ago.

My in-laws are in Odessa. They are some of the oppressed Russian speakers the nut job is hanging his shred of credibility on. Yeah, right. They most likely , being old pensioners, would be better off under Russian control as going full monty Euro would mean economic hardship. They are used to the corrupt system, but there's no reason Ukraine couldn't be the next Poland.

I think he is referring to Poland in 1939.

I'd have to agree. When I was with USAir, we bought a small fleet of Fokker 100's which came out of the Netherlands. Sometime after 1997 they went tits up and we had all kinds of problems with parts. Even when they were still a viable company, parts were an issue. We had to replicate parts all the time in our machine shop, which was a big pain. Eventually a Polish concern bought all the manufacturing components and for a while UAir was ok on the parts thing. Still we made a lot in the machine shop. I was surprised a Polish concern would be up and running to take over Fokker parts. Says a bunch for your post....however, I'm talking before that, around 2000. So it must have been on an upward roll then.
Sadly, UAir got rid of a lot of aircraft during several givebacks and bankruptcy moves and the F-100 went quick. Nice aircraft if you will.

Ukraine didn't even invade Poland, so Russia can't even justify it that way.

Certainly the Ukes have the right to defend themselves and their country. Starting in on the Ruskies would have Putin claiming they were attacked to justify their invasion. If the Ukes hold off until their forces are assaulted then go all out with everything they have to repel the Ruskies Putin just might have to back out of there rather than slaughter the place just to save it.

The Ukrainians are weeks away from mounting any meaningful resistance, if they could at all with 22 year old ex-Soviet equipment. The reservists just got their letters today to begin 2 weeks of training....

But according to the BBC:
The Russian defence ministry has apparently denied reports that Russian forces gave an ultimatum to the Ukrainian troops in Crimea (see 15:58 entry). "This is utter nonsense", a spokesman for the Russian defence ministry told Vedomosti, a Russian broadsheet.

So, no worries. We can trust them , right?
