I wonder if , just maybe, one or two tactical nukes somehow didn't get turned over to the scrappers in 1994. I am married to a Ukrainian former accounting chief who admits that accounting errors have been known to occur...

The Ukrainans should be handing out AK's, ammo, and instructions on IEDs to the public in areas which are generally anti-Russian. Make sure that as many Russians as possible will return to their motherland in pine boxes or on stretchers if they move beyond the Crimea.

The good thing about Ukraine is that it had a military draft until last year, so a sizable portion of the population has some level of military training.

Even if they have one, two, or a dozen, the Russians have 8,500 or so. Not a game that a sane leader would play. Let's hope for everyone's sake that this does NOT go nuclear.

I'd also suspect that (with their history of nuclear power) the Ukrainians could easily produce a "dirty bomb" if not a nuke. More to worry about.

Yes, thats going to solve everything. Never mind the fact that the Crimea is Russian territory that was "gifted" to Ukraine in 1954 by Khrushchev, still mostly populated by Russian speakers that want to be part Russia. I'm sure every Ukrainian can't wait to die for that cause.

The blood lust of some people...

Not Crimea or possibly the east or south, but Uncle Vlad's heavy handedness can only serve to unite the western and central parts of the country.

Good, maybe they'll finally have a viable nation state in the western part of current day Ukraine after the breakup. Imagine a Ukraine where the average income is more than $150/month and the state isn't defined by its overwhelming corruption. Wouldn't that be something? They're better off without the Crimea and the other Russian speaking regions.
