New Android cell phone -- NOT made in China

Blackberry I was playing with died, so I bought an LG Optimus F3. I'm pleasantly surprised that it's actually made in South Korea, not China.

It's a decent Android phone and small/light (doesn't try to be a tablet!). Only thing missing is more onboard storage, since it only has 4GB ROM built in, but that can be added via micro-SD card so no big deal.

. . . yes, who cares where the majority of the components are from.

WSJ: "Not Really Made in China"

"What we call 'Made in China' is indeed assembled in China, but what makes up the commercial value of the product comes from the numerous countries," Pascal Lamy, the director-general of the World Trade Organization, said in a speech in October. "The concept of country of origin for manufactured goods has gradually become obsolete."

Given that LG is a ..... wait for it ..... a South Korean company - not sure why you're surprised the phone is built in South Korea!

Did you check out MotoX too? Nice phone and isn't super big. Better processor, screen, probably nicer build. Im not sure how much you paid for the LG but probably was cheaper.

Apple is an American company. All of their products other than Mac Pro are made in China. Nokia also moved production from Hungary to China.

Hungary is no longer a low cost region. America hasn't been a low cost region in a very long while.

South Korea is still a low cost region. For now anyway - indications are they've got no more than a decade before they're too expensive to play in that world.

China is pushing the edge of the low cost envelope. Vietnam and Myanmar are starting to look more interesting.

My first 'smart phone' was an Apple 3G 16. The audio died on it.
My second was the first HTC EVO Android. I had it nearly 3 years. It was a great phone, but after 3 years the updates were not doing so well with the hardware.
Last September I replaced the EVO with a Samsung Galaxy III. I am very pleased with this phone. The Android OS on this phone is much more intuitive the what was on the EVO.
I am not saying that I would not ever consider changing, but with current phones and OS's I have to say that it would take a lot to get me to change from Android.

I have not had good luck with motorola android phones. They always reset themselves at any given moment. Many times a day.

Replaced my HTC 3D, witch I had for almost three years with a HTC One. The 3D was still working fine but it's battery life was going down and a new battery didn't fix it and it looked a little dated. The HTC One is a fantastic phone.

That's odd.

I have to say most of the time, the non-stock Android interfaces are a pain in the ass to use and I can understand why some people have sworn off Android. I've been using Nexus devices the past 2 years because i've gotten so sick of the bloatware the 3rd parties install on their phones. Sure you can root them... but sometimes you just want something that works out of the box.

I had a S3 and now S4 and the wife has an S4. Changed to the Note 3 because of the bigger screen. HOWEVER, the latest update has me a little peeved. My backup program which used to backup to the cloud and SD card can not work anymore because Kitkat does not allow many 3rd party applications to write to the SD card. You have to root the phone to get it to do that.
