OK, serious question: what is this white stuff on my spark plugs?

I found this when I went to do the plugs in the Buick. Any ideas what it is? It seems ever-so-slightly moist and flaky.

Electrical paste?

What is a 'spark plug'...??;)

looks like dried out dielectric grease..
what does it taste like?

Mölyapina 03-01-2014 04:36 PM

Thanks, dielectric grease makes sense. It's actually quite tasty. I've been sucking on the old plugs.

Spark plugs... if you don't know what they are, James probably needs some ;).

Dielectric grease. Sometimes labeled as "tune up grease."

Would it be worth it to put some more in there?

Keeps them from sticking and tearing apart the spk plug wire when you need to remove a plug plus keeps moisture in check.

Are you wearing gloves?!?

Mölyapina 03-01-2014 06:46 PM

No, I have a skin condition.

P.C. 03-01-2014 07:00 PM

It really looks like you are wearing gloves.

Mölyapina 03-01-2014 07:18 PM

No, I have a skin condition. It's what happens when you don't wear gloves.

Kuan 03-01-2014 07:45 PM

You should wear gloves.

P.C. 03-01-2014 08:02 PM

It would keep the skin condition from developing.

Mölyapina 03-01-2014 08:18 PM

Nono, you guys don't understand. My skin is like that because it got so used to petroleum products; now that it doesn't have contact with them, it goes nasty. Sometimes I'll soak them in some gas for a few hours to liven them up, but I pretty much have to wait 'till it's warmer outside and I can spend more time with the car before my hands will look normal again.

So wearing gloves would obviously be idiotic. Next thing I know, you guys will tell me to stop chain smoking, too, even though I just turned 18 and can finally do it legally.
