(That famous day in history the men of the 7th Cavalry went riding on)
(And from the rear a voice was heard)
(A brave young man with a trembling word rang loud and clear)
What am I doin' here??

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go
Hey, Mr. Custer, please don't make me go
I had a dream last night, about the comin' fight
Somebody yelled "Attack!"
And there I stood with a arrow in my back.

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go (forward Ho!!)--aaww, nooooo

SPOKEN: Look at them bushes out there
They're moving and there's a injun behind every one

Hey, Mr. Custer-you mind if I be excused the rest of the afternoon?
HEY CHARLIE, DUCK YER HEAD!!
Hmm, you're a little bit late on that one, Charlie
Hooh, I bet that smarts!

(They were sure of victory, the men of the 7th Cavalry, as they rode on)

(But then from the rear a voice was heard)
(That same brave voice with the trembling word rang loud and clear)
What am I doin' here??

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go
Listen, Mr. Custer, please don't make me go
There's a redskin a'waitin' out there, just fixin to take my hair
A coward I've been called cuz I don't wanna wind up dead or bald

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go (forward HO)--aaww, nooooo

SPOKEN: I wonder what the injun word for friend is
Let's see-friend-- kemo sabe, that's it
KEMO SABE!, HEY OUT THERE-KEMO SABE!
Nope, that itn't it

Look at them durned injuns

They're runnin' around like a bunch of wild Indians-heh, heh, heh

We Canadians have too high a past record of military battlefield executions to keep order to ignore. Worse than any force from a large democratic country . Exceptions may be China and the Japanese and perhaps Russians. They were not democratic type countries though. It was not talked about much but it was done. It is on record. I have seen the statistics years ago.

I have always suspected this was one reason Canadian attacks went well in the first world war especially when others failed. As a Canadian you were pretty much dead either way. Still there was one way you might survive. Impossible mentally for soldiers to deal with the high ratio of loses in those actions.

Beyond a certain loss ratio you would just not go over the top. Unless there was no choice allowed. Continued into the second world war to some degree as well. The basis being the old expression. A soldiers duty is not to ask how or why. A soldiers duty is to do or die.

My father survived the second world war because of a few factors. He was twenty seven when he enlisted so had developed some brain power and judgement.. Casualty rates in the second world war were low for the allies in comparison to the first world war especially. He was allowed to make decisions and educate younger guys in the ways of survival. Still lost some but as he told me it was usually due to their own stupidity. Live to fight another day or time was high priority to him. The Canadian general he served under was the only good one we Canadians really had for that war.

He also had good coincidence. Basically just not being in the wrong places at the wrong time. Fought in Italy and northern Europe. Armored division. Learned very fast that some types of german equipment was to be avoided if possible at almost all costs. The Sherman tanks were really not up to dealing with some of it.

My grandfather on my dads side was killed frontally attacking German machine gun positions across open dirt in the first world war. The bullet went through a bible he carried in his chest pocket. Chances are quite high he was more than aware he was being sent to his death with little chance. They took the positions that day but his unit was butchered in the process.

The lack of moral fibre charge basically replaced extreme actions otherwise.. . One has to wonder how many shell shocked cases where executed in the Canadian army at one time.
