Does the Rest of the Country Really Need These?
These are the 16 Southern chains the rest of the country needs - Thrillist Nation
In the South, chains are about fried chicken, biscuits, tacos, burgers, and addiction. And until these ones expand, they're the reason Southern expats are burning millions of gallons of gas on drive-thru pilgrimages. Well, maybe . . . I am a sucker for a good biscuit. |
raising Canes is the fastest way to feed a teen-aged soccer team with no complaints.

A "southern" chain of drive-in "food" opened up in the great north here called Sonic. Within a year all the locations closed around here. Think some go for the dart board method.

Must have been hard rollerskating to the cars in a Wisconsin winter. :D

Chain food is chain food. North, South, West, Tacos no matter.
Salt, sugar and grease. |
More fried food.....just what we all need.

All things in moderation.

I do enjoy a good quiznos, whataburger, chic-fil-a and sometimes waffle house meal from time to time. Raising canes just came here recently that I know of and have yet to try them. Seems chicken places are popping up all the time. 10 years ago all we had were KFC, Popeyes and churches along with bill miller but now we have golden chick, raising cane, bush's and something else I cant remember the name of.

I ate at a Quiznos a couple of times, pretty good stuff. Heard an article on NPR a while back about how Q. franchise holders were pissed at the main hq. Apparently had to buy supplies from hq only at marked up prices. I just read that the company is filing for bankruptcy.
I can imagine there are plenty of sad stories of franchise holders who sunk years of their life into one of these, not to mention a 5 to 6 figure grubstake, and came up empty. Like the Sonic place in WI. The company may have felt very little pain on that one. |

1. WhattaBurger: good, but Its a burger. Here, Braum's is way better (Braum's | Ice Cream and Dairy Stores)
2. Waffle House: great drunken food. end up there at 0200 to 0530 and its a festival 3. Taco Casa: THIS IS WHAT FAST TEX MEX IS ALL ABOUT. Taco Bell in the days before Pepsico, Cheese, meat, corn....classic food |

Many people blame the downfall of Krispy Kreme on the "Atkins" diet craze where carbs were shunned, but in reality, it was a failed franchising system. The franchise was hurt by 1) too many outlets (stand alone stores, grocery stores, convenience stores) selling the product; 2) too close to each other and 3) they choked their franchise owners to death with high markups on machinery and product.
