google, your privacy, and your computer ...
... and probably the NSA Did you notice what happened with Version 33.0.1750.146 m of Chrome? It defaults your machine ID on, authorizes additional downloads after you download things, sets plugins to run auto, sets allow sites to track your physical location, and sets google to do this "notifications" thing where even after you log out of chrome, clear everything back to the begining of time, it still has you logged into google with your browser off. You can turn off most of it in settings, but that notifications animal has google set as an exception that you can't touch, despite their help page claiming you can. Let me know if you can, so far I can't.

I haven't used "Trun" since TRS-DOS.
What's a Chrome? |

I use Chromium which is Chrome, but with vetted source code. And a non-cloud self-hosted email...

OK, do me a solid: update your chrome then check your settings and see if you can remove that monster.

Ironically, I'm not -- unless I'm encrypting email with PGP or similar, it still traverses the Internet in plain text. I'm mainly making it hard for marketeer scum who want to scrape my emails to display targeted ads.

You should read google's latest terms and what not. I had a gander while trying to figure this out. They own your stuff.

You have provided a great reason not to update.

Is there such a thing as a browser that will play youtube videos and active content without the anal probe? I'm using cram, I mean chrome but want to quit it.
I quit google search when they went to all https. I still have gmail but use the html version. I want to quit that too. Maybe time for Linux? I still remember some Unix, I can do it. |

You can use Tor, basically it bounces off a bunch of different servers around the world. Its not very practical for everyday use though. Also FWIW Google is pretty serious about protecting your data from marketers....
