Porsche Cayenne SUV diesel

Yesterday the Son in law and I went window shopping. At the porsche dealer they had a new SUV with the v8 diesel. 300 hp 400 torque, leather, tow package sticker 59K. I was surprised at the relatively reasonable price. Would that engine be built by VW? I think it is an 8 speed auto. It was unlocked and I can testify that although not real big inside it is well trimmed with leather.

I will confess that an suv that is styled to look like a porsche has never really clicked in my mind.

I think you'll find that it's really a V6- the same one used by VW and Audi.

The ML 350 Bluetec has fewer horsepower, but more torque, for a similar price.

Aren't the Touareg and Cayenne kissing cousins?

I know a guy who has a full boat gasser Touareg. He loves it. I do too, but I don't have to maintain or pay for it.

Wouldn't mind owning one, but do mind the payment needed to own one.

Yeah I bet its a V6 from the taureg. No V8 diesel from VW as far as I've seen...

300HP 400 torque is actually low.....the 2.1 liter I4 from MB right now makes 200hp and 369 torque....

Hatterasguy 03-10-2014 12:17 PM

Its a V6 it puts out 240hp/406T.

They are nice trucks, $60k is a cheap one in typical Porsche fashion the options add up fast!

Its built in Slovakia by VW. The only thing Porsche about it is the badge.

Fulcrum525 03-10-2014 01:23 PM

I parked one at work the other day. It actually came as a bit of a shock when I saw the 'diesel' badge on the front wing (I had no idea that Porsche would go over to the dark side!)

With that said because of the VW connection it makes sense and considering how most people drive Cayennes anyways its only natural. Its not a particurally fast car unless you buy the top end models and even then, what's the point? If you want to go fast buy a real Porsche sports car, they certainly have plenty to choose from :)

Would love to drive a Touareg V10 TDI, they must be a blast.

A friend who is a Porsche tech at a dealer spent a lot of time with them as they were becoming available when he was at Porsche "college" he has a lot of good things to say about them.

t walgamuth 03-10-2014 09:50 PM

ok...must be a v6...I didn't read all the fine print. Anybody know what they will tow?

Yes, toureg, audi and Porsche all share this SUV package.

Medmech 03-10-2014 10:01 PM

Towing
The Cayenne is quite simply the most versatile vehicle we have ever built. This includes the capability of being used as a tow vehicle. An optional Towing Package includes a manual detachable trailer hitch that accommodates a maximum braked trailer weight of 7,716 pounds, and a maximum tongue weight of 617 pounds.

They are very popular at the yacht clubs and I don't hear much crying.

Personally I love the new Range Rover with its 500hp V8, POWER!:D:cool: I drove the old super charged Range Rover Sport and it made me feel all happy when that blower started to whine when I gunned it.

The problem is its British...

spdrun 03-10-2014 10:04 PM

Well, I guess that Lamborghini started out building tractors, so Porsche can go the other way.
