I was paid $7.35 an hour to sweep the floor, make sure freshmen kept all 10 fingers, learn SolidWorks, how to mill, how to turn, how to TIG weld, and a ton of fixin' tricks. Plus anything in the scrap bin was free-I rarely bought material.

Congratulations Jooseppi.

Now, when the time comes, we expect a report on your Thermodynamics course.

From what I heard when #2 son was looking for ME school, MIT is better for Post grad studies. Get your ME somewhere else. And for a completely different idea: https://www.jacobs-university.de/ My son applied and was accepted there. They offered about a 50% scholarship to him but he decided he wanted to stay in KY. Oh, and you get the degree in there years there. They don't have all the PC classes taking up your time or $$$$$$.

MIT is probably the only school at this point that could significantly tempt me, but I'm concerned about what it might do to my physical health. I had a concussion a little over a year ago when someone blew a stop sign and hit me that has mostly healed but left me needing to sleep at least 7-8 hours a night so that I don't get dizzy or suffer other strange symptoms, (I once got strange buzzing in my head and lost my peripheral vision out of the blue while driving on a twisty road), and my understanding is that MIT is not conducive to good sleeping habits . My mother said that she felt lazy if she slept 6 hours in a night while going there.

Debt is still a big concern for me, though. I wouldn't go to into debt for BU or Tufts.

In some ways, my prayer is that if God doesn't want me going to MIT, I won't get accepted. Getting rejected would make the decision about going there mighty easy.

Congrats to you! I didn't realize you were my age. So you're interested in engineering and astronomy, I take it ? I suppose getting an astronomy degree would force you to get a higher-level degree than an engineering degree would?

Hope you get favorable scholarship decisions!
All great schools, I hope you get accepted and get over this injury. I was initially thinking of applying to MIT but they sure are expensive and I decided that as much as I love Boston, I'm better suited for the weather here in the South.

I have been offered large scholarships at LSU but my twin brother got $5000 less a year than me because he had a 32 ACT instead of a 33 like myself, so at the moment they would cost us about $24k combined a year to go with room and board and such when our Pell Grant is factored in. We are hoping to get a nice scholarship from UF, my top choice as I will be able to live in a house we own off campus (with a garage! and the chance to possibly work on some antique steam cars) but I won't hear for a while. GA Tech is looking to be the cheapest at somewhere around $15k a year and my second choice but it is overall the best funded school of my top 3.

I am planning on majoring in mechanical engineering but at UF, I can do a dual degree program that adds only like 9 credit hours in order to get a second degree in Aerospace engineering. GA Tech may have a similar program but I have to ask when I visit later on. LSU doesn't offer aerospace but their mechanical engineering is very good as well as their petroleum engineering program which as much as I love aerospace and mechanical, petroleum engineers typically make $80,000 upon graduation with a bachelor's degree then around $250k a year with 10 years in the workforce, so its definitely something I am considering because they pay is so good.

I am also considering astronomy because I have a large interests in it and the salaries are pretty good, but definitely engineering is more my thing because astronomy does not have as many job opportunities or places to work. It seems that a PhD is required, not sure I want to be in school that long but I haven't decided yet.
