Domestic drones.

This is not the future anymore. Will the same nerds that patrol the skies over Afghanistan and Yemen start patrolling the streets of Detroit?

Coming to Wal-mart soon: the PATRIOT, homeowner edition! To take down the neighbor's spy drones.

I thought that this thread was about the Little Missus nagging me to take out the garbage, rake the leaves, put out the patio furniture...

Thanks for some AM levity.
But there's a cure for that...it's called bachelorhood. Life begins again after divorce!

I suspect we'll see a lot of that in the near future. If I had a drone hovering over my house I might very well feel tempted to send a 12 gauge blast its way. Might not go down to well in suburbia but it will happen.

There has been aerial surveillance, mapping, photography for decades . . . what's the "hub bub" now?

Every once in a while I like to stick my head out my window, look up at the sky, and smile for a satellite picture. ...

Exactly.... I recall seeing "Speed monitored by aircraft" signs on the PA
Turnpike decades ago.

The main differences is that drones are not restricted to National Air Space, don't require an airport nor ATC nor an air worthiness certification nor an operator's license. Low altitude sensors on an electrically powered quadcopter are a reality, peeping through a window near you.

The only protection citizens have (of which I am aware) was a Supreme Court decision that ruled thermal imaging was an invasion of privacy and required a warrant. The field of remote sensing is changing so rapidly that we will see that decision revisited many times.

Also, what's to prevent some ********* with a grudge, a crook, or a perversion from using UAS for whatever surveillance or whatnot she may wish to pursue?

I'm with the folks up above -- fly that mofo over my land and meet Mr Remington DCCCLXX.

Flying it over your private property is aerial trespass and you have a remedy at law.

Stand your airspace

What law would protect a drone anyway? You don't know who's it is or what it is intending. Looked dangerous to me your honor!
