Slide show of recently uncovered Ukranian car collection

Amazing stuff here. Abandoned by the ex-Pres. last month.

Ukraine's former president Viktor Yanukovych kept a classic Russian car collection at his Mezhihirya residence - Autoweek

According to him, he's still the president and is coming back when things return to normal.

If they auction them off, I'd bid $3.50 (they pay the freight) but I'm afraid I might be the winning bidder.

There were a few I liked as well. I suspect they were all systematically maintained still.

It boggles the mind to think what some of those handmade, limited production ZILs cost the average Soviet "taxpayer" back then. They just couldn't buy a Mercedes, I guess....not PC

Some of those Zil's were Packard loookalikes. That massive Studebaker truck was interesting.

Are they still considered "classic" when they're as technologically advanced as the "new" cars on the road there? How do you determine model year on a 10-30 year production run?

I like that Studie stakebed. Quite a few of the sedans remind me of late 40s-early 50s Plymouths.

Stalin loved Packards. When the war was over and Packard came out with new cars Stalin had the USSR buy all the tooling and set-up an assembly line there to keep building pre-war cars. Stalin died in 1953 but the design work on the mid-50's Russian cars was a going thing then and if Stalin said Packards were the greatest cars in the world then who was going to argue with him?

The compact ZAZ's remind me of a FIAT 600 of the era. There is probably a good reason for that.

When it came to reliability I wonder which was the best? The FIAT or the ZAZ?

I almost bought a FIAT 600 in 1971 since the new price was $1600. But no A/C option killed the deal.

My dad was thinking of buying an 850 sedan , but bought a Chevy II instead.

This guy may be wanting to add to his collection:
