The normal reason for using 90 degrees in a v6 is them being built on the same lines as v8's so saving money in mfgr.

True, but F1 engines are a custom deal and share essentially nothing production engines. The use of a 90 degree engine instead of a 60 degree one doesn't make much sense to me.

I read that they were considering an inline four, which I probably would have liked, but it would have been so narrow that they would have had trouble including the engine block as a stressed member, hence the V-6. You would think they could have done 60 degrees though. Or 180 degrees for that matter.

Its funny I see this. I was watching some f1 onboard videos just earlier this week and I remember thinkin that the engines sounded lame. I didnt even realize they changed engines.

so is it an F1 engine? I thought it was stated above in the thread that they are turbocharged this year.
