Said someone in 1954.
I went to school in Massachusetts in the early 60s and don't remember seeing a single black person anywhere. We went south for vacations and I lived amoungst black people then. The myth and the reality are often quite different. What I experienced as a kid and what I learned about through the media were very different. To this day the media portrayal of the south is still mostly BS. But then I expect BS from ignorant, self-serving A$$ holes.

It was not smart to be sure. OTOH, the girl will be a pariah at school or any school in her town and none of this would have happened if the father had thought to ask:

"Then why didn't you scream bloody murder when a stranger came into your room and climbed into your bed and all this with us, your parents, in the house? And how come I didn't hear him breaking in?"

Here's my guess on the argument:

Dad: What the hell you doin punk?!

Boy: I came to see my girlfriend, she let me it.

Girl: I don't know him and I don't no nuttin'.

Boy: Of course this B knows me! We been doin' it for 2 years!!

BOOM!

Probably not accurate but damn this is a weird story. Another great example of a person using a gun to get themselves in a whole heap o' trouble. No criminal charges? Civil gone to be a MuthaFokker.

And then there's the issue of her daddy going through various sorts of ringers cuz the girl was:

1. Dumb enough to let him in.

2. Dumb enough to deny knowing him.

And NONE of this would have happened or come to light if the Dad hadn't a had his gun with him. Baseball bat woulda done fine.

this article gives a few more factoids, one, that the kid was actually in bed with the daughter, and two, that the detectives are sending it to a grand jury

Houston dad shoots, kills boy found inside daughter

Yeah, that kid was ballsy as hell chasing tail in the parents house under their roof with their daughter, BUT, there is no way that is an offense punishable by death, especially when the daughter is a knowing and willing participant and shares equal if not more blame. The man caught the both of them IN BED for petes sake. Kid was probably grabbing for his pants to make a break for it.

Id be pissed, id be throwing that kid out, and id be taking his ID and calling his parents so they can chew him out too. Id also be putting my daughter through a humiliating round of questioning about her sexual habits and what sort of game she happens to be playing, what protections shes practicing, how shes too young to be doing this, and how dangerous these things can be if one isn't careful about STDs and pregnacy, but at the end of the day, this is what teenagers do.

Do you expect the rest of us to believe that you didn't do things with teenage girlfriends that would have been unacceptable to the parents?

Did you really go up to the father and say "sir, I intend to take your daughter out, and afterwords play tonsil hockey and a nice session of slap and tickle. Do I have your blessing?"

I think thats unlikely.

Agree with shouldn't have been in the house. But you never know what kind of stunts these two kids were into. A friend of mine from high school once admitted to me that she had a quickie with her HS boyfriend in a display shower in the home depot. Some people go for that "gonna get caught" heightening of excitement, maybe these two kids have done this a dozen times in the house and loved the risk of it.

Ill be damned if I would do that, but everyones different. Stupid games is right, getting caught is a big stupid prize, but getting shot is something else entirely.

That's a fine sentiment if it is applied to accents, weekend activities and conversation at the coffee klatsch, but it is inappropriate when discussing murder. Of course, in Texas you can shoot people in the back and claim self defense, so this db will likely get off free of legal consequences.

Do you suppose either of the kids had much choice where they lived??

The father is a dumb a$$ who has ruined the lives of many people because he chose to engage a weapon in a situation where he did not have command of all the facts.

Not hard to conclude the father was clearly overbearing and likely abusive and that’s why the daughter’s reaction was to lie in the face of the obvious. The father was simply being himself.

The father has a bleak future and he has probably destroyed his family as well.

Charges unlikely for Houston dad accused of shooting daughter

If the prosecutor is saying it's unlikely that charges will be filed, then the case is over.
I doubt either the DA's office or the police have done any investigating at all. Took names and filed a report... case closed.

Just another great reason not to live in Texas.

Wish I had said that. Hope I can remember it long enough to use it. I will use it if I can.

The Dad is a real tool. Way to go Dad. You ruined your family and especially your daughter. So, she was a slut, big deal. Now she'll be a crack head, psych case and you get to pay for it until she dies of an overdose at 40. Real man, real family man. Bravo. Try to do better with her crack babies 'cause you are probably gonna have to raise them too. Dumb A$$.

Guns don't kill, trash kills.

Trash may kill, but trash without guns has a much harder time killing.

I have yet to meet anyone educated who owns guns other than for hunting purposes. 100% of the people I know who have them around/actively carry are of limited educational ability and worldly knowledge. In fact I know someone who just acquired more guns at great expense (can't afford them either) because he was afraid Kim Jong-un was going to "attack us". I rest my case. People who need guns for "entertainment" or "sport" are probably compensating for other shortfalls in their lives.

Let the flame war begin.

Well, that's one moral.

I saw a picture of this kid. Very boy-like. If the dad had 2 or 3 grams of street smarts or poise, he could have got the fact that the kid looked more like his daughter's boyfriend than rapist. And he might have considered that she didn't scream like hell when a strange 'man' entered her room.

The boy paid a big price but the father and daughter will be paying an unknown price for some time to come.

Now that the race card has been played, are the father and daughter of a different race?
