Could Be the End for Big Box Book Seller

http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/04/03/liberty-media-to-sell-most-of-its-stake-in-barnes-noble/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

On Thursday, Leonard Riggio, Barnes & Noble’s chairman, said that while Liberty had been a strong supporter of the retailer, the company would now have a greater ability to pursue unstated “various strategic options.”

Liberty’s exit could open the door for Barnes & Noble to be sold entirely or split it up, options that executives have been considering for some time.

That's a shame...they had a nice product.
You could get a lot of things there besides coffee and a dude on a geetar.

Its an obsolete business model. I haven't been inside a Barnes and Noble in years, and I have still been buying a lot of books. Amazon's approach is superior they have a lot of books B&N doesn't have in stock.

About the only feature I would miss is that B&N's magazine stand is the only place I've been able to find "Mercedes Enthusiast"

I love bookstores and would be very sad to see them all disappear. Music, movies, and other things like that are fine to buy online or just down load, but there's nothing that quite compares to spending an hour or three in a bookstore . . .

I agree. But change is inexorable. In time probably the only book stores that might still be in existence are used book stores as most people dump the few books they still by from online places like Amazon into the "material world" of brick and mortar. Pity. I actually preferred the last one that went belly up. Borders I think it was. But I'm sad to see any of them go.
