51 Cadillac hearse pickup
 

I used to have a really nice original 51 Caddy hearse. It was low miles, less than 50K and drove wonderfully.

I just had a dream. I was at my Indie's shop gathering up stuff that he happened to have left over from working on my cars and I noticed my Caddy hearse was there and it sported a flat bed on back similar to the one on my big Dodge. In reality I sold the Caddy at least 20 years ago but in the dream it was there with the flat bed on the back...looking pretty good too.

I had never wanted it with a flat bed but I had made sketches of it with a shorter wheelbase (120" or so vs actual for it of 156"), a el camino style bed and a roadster top...yes, a Caddy roadster Ute.

Too bad I never built it.

I remember a Packard hearse and think about it sometimes. I would have one. It was probably around a 1940 model, give or take a few years. It was a very, very, large car.

They are enormous. Mine weighed 5900# empty.;)

No need to chop up a good Hearse to get a pick-up. Just look in Hemmings for a Flower Car. They were normally made by the same companies that converted the Caddy's and don't seem to sell for as much as the hearse's do.

in my experience the flower cars are rare as hens teeth and when offered are about double what a good hearse is....prolly because they are more usable.

I remember someone in Texas had a 50s Cadilliac frt half stuck on a dually frame ,the rear of an older truck cab was then welded to complete the marriage of truck and caddy.A REAL good looking ride was realized ,the only detail left was the bed ,this is were you can let your imagination run wild with those nifty fifty styled tail wings.

pic 2: where was that taken? the corner there and the name of the "Back Room" seems so very familiar....love the flower Caddy too.

I thought the first pic was close enough to a caddy. But it might be a PONTIAC. And no, I'm not going to spell out the acronym beyond 'Poor Old . . . .

No, I found that one on the web. No idea where it's from.

number onemight be a Pontiac. I think the second picture is place in NYS or New Hampshire....

Things were better in the 60's....;)

Only Pontiac had those metal hood strakes.
