U.S. advises avoiding Internet Explorer until bug fixed

U.S. advises avoiding Internet Explorer until bug fixed | Reuters
Quote:
The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team, a part of Homeland Security known as US-CERT, said in an advisory released on Monday morning that the vulnerability in versions 6 to 11 of Internet Explorer could lead to "the complete compromise" of an affected system. "We are currently unaware of a practical solution to this problem,"
I suppose most of us don't use IE anymore anyway, but what a pile, eh?

As with anything else, it's vectored by someone clicking on something they shouldn't. That it leverages Flash tells you a lot, too.

A little common sense and suspicious, coupled with less gullibility, go a long way towards staying safe while browsing the webz.

Suspicious timing for this to come out just after Micro$**t discontinued security updates for XP (and consequently IE running under XP).

Smart people have been avoiding IE for years; there are much better browsers.

Sadly, you need it for sites using ActiveX (you can run it in a Firefox or Chrome window, but it amounts to the same thing).

I'm always taken aback when I see mention of Exploder. I don't know a single soul who uses it, for anything.
Sorta like Eudora Mail. Or something.

Y'all need to welcome me aboard. I've just downloaded and started using Chrome. I'm pretty slow that way.

Perhaps NSA doesn't have an efficient enough hook in XP so they need us all to upgrade? Like when they forced us to upgrade to phones with GPS despite our current phones working just fine.

well said; thanks for the laugh..... I remember Eudora...

IE is for people who don't know any better and only use their computers for gambling, porn, and e-mail.
