Cubans love their old American cars - Wonderful little tribute - (45+ mins.)

This is amazing. A glorious retrospective for us, but a daily passion down there..., even Edsels, Cadillacs and a Hudson! How many of these can YOU remember?

Most have Russian tractor diesels and the interiors are stripped, although you do see a few nice ones that have been properly restored.

We had a 49 Ford convertible as our taxi in Havana with a Russian tractor diesel on the hood.

The drivers said they smuggle most of the parts in from FL and just about everything else, what they can't get is made. Most of the interiors are hacked together from various other more modern junkyard cars. Hyundai dash board and Mazda steering wheel in an old Chevy is common.

Havana is an awesome city.

Yeah, I have heard that kind of story also - they are real ingenious with parts: for emergency air filters they use grandma's hair nets, for instance.

I ever get down there, I'd really be sure and bring several sets of old 1950's Chevy and Ford spark plugs, to give away!

Back when I was married, a dozen years ago we got a ride from Lima Peru, down the Panamericana Highway to see the Nazca Lines by air, at Ica near the coastal desert.

The taxicab was an immaculate 1966 Oldsmobile f85, beautiful maroon, not its original color because the seats were blue cloth brocade.

The driver told me its motor was a Nissan diesel engine!

You should go your retired, fly to Cayman and catch the shuttle flight, or Mexico.

Their is nothing like Havana. You want to see it before all the Americans get their and ruin it.

There is truly NOTHING like Cuba. Nothing. My favorite island by far.

Your personal experiences as depicted here and elsewhere certainly validate that remark!
