Stop the Magazines!
Last week I got a magazine on my desk. The office manager said it came in the mail for me. I'm not sure how it got here. My company is pretty cool in that they let us get personal packages sent to the office. So I get orders from Amazon, Pelican Parts, and Ebay pretty regularly. But I've never gotten any magazines here. I figured it was a fluke and threw the magazine away.
Today I got 2 more magazines. So I called one of the magazine companies and asked them how I got on their mailing list. She told me I had been subscribed via a third party. A company called Strategic Media. And she gave me a phone number to call. 877-266-6555. I called and I got a machine for a company called Magazine Service Center Where I went through a phone system until I though I was getting to talk to a human, only to get an opportunity to leave a voice mail. So I did and told them to unsubscribe me from these magazines. I still don't know how I got signed up in the first place. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, how did you go about stopping them?

Lots of publishers offer "gift" subscriptions to people who renew. You probably got "gifted."

Good luck with that. FIL got himself signed up for 20+ magazines..... never paid for a single one. Two + years and two changes of address later, we're down to only one that is still getting forwarded.
Misery loves company? You're not alone. Link is to BBB complaints.

That's what I'm thinking. But I can't recall what I bought that could have come with a "gift"
The magazines I got are Fast Company and Inc the other was another "business" magazine, I don't recall the name. I called both magazines I got today and had them suspend my subscription. I guess my best option to call every magazine the comes to me and have them suspend my subscription.

It is a long road, but perhaps you bought something and that company sold your information to an information broker. They sold it to magazines that advertise to the crowd that buys that type of product or is in that sort of business.
This is very common for high income people since advertisers want those eyeballs and magazines want those advertisers. They can give the magazines away if they can recoup via higher ad prices. |

Yep I figured that out today. The first lady didn't tell me that but when I called the number for the second magazine she told me. That doesn't explain the first magazine and the folks at Fast Company/Inc. told me about the third party who subscribed for me. Maked me upset that my info got sold/passed along to these people.

Well, Strategic Media called this morning. They said I had been given the subscription as a gift from Budget Rental Car. That's odd because I've never rented a car in my life. On top of that my company changed locations less then a year ago, so how did they get my company's address?
Strategic Media told me that they would stop my subscription. Now I'm wondering who else bought my shipping address? and what company sold it in the first place. Budget must have bought my info from someone. Guess who will never rent from Budget. Any company that trades personal info is not worth doing business with.
