Reasons for disqualification of a voter signature on a petition were many and varied, including a few referenced in the Conyer's story. I always enjoyed when my candidate was running against some earnest but hapless Republican newbie, who usually employed inexperienced volunteers to circulate petitions.

After the petition submission deadline had passed, I would saunter down to the voter registration office with an attorney/political hack/candidate designee and request to see the petitions of the opposing candidate. While a few signatures were invariably disqualified because individuals were registered to the wrong political party, or their registration had lapsed because of failure to vote in multiple consecutive elections, I would usually have a field day reviewing the address section. I lived in a city of a name which was often abbreviated in common use (e.g., Los Angeles is often referred to as "L.A.") and when the voter used the city abbreviation instead of writing the full city name, his signature was automatically invalidated under state law. Another reason for disqualification involved the format of the petition, where voters would write the name and address on one line of the petition, with the provision for the next voter's information located on a line directly below. While circulating a petition through the neighborhood, some lazy petition signators couldn't even be bothered to write the abbreviated version of the city portion of the address, instead, they placed ditto marks ( " ) below the address of the previous signator. I recall one petition where the ditto marks were used over fifty times in a row. Ouch.

I distinctly recall having a front-row seat to the disqualification of four Republican candidates for office due to the stupidity of their campaign staff in such matters. So sad. Perhaps they would have done some good for their community.
You meanie - head !!!!!!!

It would be interesting to see who was gathering the sigs. Very likely well meaning people, but without the proper leadership things are bound to go wrong. That's pretty much the case for whatever you are talking about.

The part I find interesting about this is that the guy is supposed to be one of the leaders of our country but he can't even lead a few people in gathering sigs.

It just might be time to think about retirement.
I dunno 'bout that .......

Every time the Acorn voter registration fraudsters would get caught, the Demokrat drones would have us believe that the fraudsters were not really criminal, but were merely incompetent. I think if I were an Acorn nut or a Demokrat drone I would try to use this Conyers fiasco as proof of incompetence ......

Can you give any details about the times ACORN was proven guilty in voter registration fraud? Being accused of it in the right wing press where the gullible sheep will buy into anything that feeds their fantasies is one thing, but most Courts require a higher level of proof than "I don't care if this is true, I believe it anyway."

I'd like those details too. How many ACORN operatives are in jail or were convicted?

Oh wait, I know the answer. None, because Obama.

I don't think any charges were brought by Holder's Justice Department. I know that's a shock.

But the videos and reaction to them became so intense that ACORN performed a Blackwater.

If your'e going to play the game, boy, learn to play it right!
Yes, there was a picture of precinct 21, or something like that, ballot box with a sherif and some others standing next to it grinning like a mule eating briars.

As bad as I hate to say it, LBJ was the politician that probably wrote a secret book with lessons on being a corrupt politician. The reason I hate to say it is that've is the only POTUS I ever personally met on two different occasions.

No, because they are now called SEIU or something like that.

Words matter. They're not the same, no matter how much your little head wants them to be. Not a single illegal vote has been proved to have been cast as a result of any of ACORN'S actions. It wasn't voter fraud, or election fraud.

Sure you can and that's what happened. ACORN failed to vet it's registrars and paid them by the numbers. Stupid to say the least, but there's never been any indication that the few bad apples were in any way part of some grand conspiracy to steal an election. They were just stealing money. From ACORN and it's funders. The continued attempt to color this any other way is laughable.
