Childrens Books 'Author of the Year'

Quote:

Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh won the "Author of the Year Award" at the Children's Choice Book Awards for his book Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans, in which Rush Revere and a talking horse named Liberty travel back in time to visit the pilgrims. Although the book has never been a critical favorite — accused it of "disdain for even the most rudimentary standards of storytelling" — it has been an enormous commercial success.

The article notes that the winner was chosen by a vote of anyone who cared to vote, not by a panel of experts. Since Rush has a chance to speak to around 1.5 million people a day and let them know he would like their vote it is not much of a shock that his entry should win.

Stuffing the ballot box. Isn't that something Conservatives oppose?

So, you are advocating FOR voter ID?
Actually, I NEVER heard him ever ask people to vote for him, did you?

Don't let the facts get in your way Pal.

From the quoted article:

Four finalists for the award were chosen because of their places on bestseller lists, and the winner was chosen by children's votes.

It is funny to watch people who think they understand how these award programs operate try to explain them.

As far as voter ID goes.... Grow up. This is a commercial venture in the entertainment world. You would equate this with voting for our leaders?

Really?

Please do some research on this thing known as Democracy and get back with us. You might discover that some difference exists between the US Constitution and show business.

Who stole your sense of humor? Not EVERY issue is life-or-death. Lighten up. I thought it very funny that Rush's award bothered you so much that you had to resort to " stuffing the ballot box" as an explanation. You also made an accusation that he pleaded with voters to vote for hi9m and that was a complete fabrication on your part.
You need to "grow up" if that is possible.

I'm going to ask our librarian about this. Our classes do all these book award votes and I don't recall seeing the windbag's book on any of the lists.

Most books written by political clowns/entertainers are bought up in mass by political think thanks. Thats how they make it to the NYTimes best seller list. It's one big fraud.

How does the voting thing work? How does a grade schooler determine how to vote for a book? Not like their critical thinking skills are very developed to compare one book to another. What are they basing their decisions on?

Its an award for writing childrens' books. Don't over think it, or read too much into it. You all are showing what you fear by your emotional reaction to this award.

I’ve read of other cases where a well-known celebrity enters for them a new arena and does really well. Their popularity and a low sales price for a commodity makes for very strong sales. This kind of approach is said to be a near guaranteed money maker. I’m guessing that this is the case here.

OTOH, there is something more than a little creepy about this guy would be pandering to children...
