What Mercedes Books do you have?¿
Howdy All,
What inspired me to post this topic is 2 fold. When I got home a Gwagen book was waiting for me:) The other reason is to find out what you have and what books you would recommend I should add to my collection. Believe it or not I even have some Unimog books(imagine that!¡):) Thanx. |
My thrift shop cruising wife found me a 1980 'Great Marques: Mercedes Benz' by Roger Bell, with intro by Juan Manuel Fangio, still in the dust jacket. Neat book, with pics of all 3 versions of the C111 gullwing.
|
Mercedes The Enduring Legend by Nicky Wright.
A very large but beautiful book with a Gullwing on the cover. It talks about the history of Mercedes passenger cars up to the W126 chassis (early 90 models). |
Illustrated Mercedes-Benz Buyer's Guide
Motorbooks International ISBN 0-87938-902-8 1994 very informative. Covers antique cars up to those available in 1994. Gives you technical information, differences among model years, many photos, driving impressions, "what to look for", even editorial comment (in this case about the SL, p119): " ... The biggest snag about an SL, like other recent Mercedes-Benz models, is that some observers classify you as a rich S.O.B. or the female equivalent ..." very useful reference. |
"Mercedes" by Rainer W. Schlegelmilch and Hartmut Lehbrink. The book covers MB from MY1886 to MY1999. The book is very informative and with 660 pages full of great pics. It is also printed in three languages.

My collection...
has a couple real Benzes, a couple die-cast models, but no books other than some service manuals. I guess I need to start hunting up some reading material.
I have to live that part vicariously through the titles and excerpts posted by others for now. |
nothing about the road cars but I have a book called "mercedes magic, the story of the 1989 LeMans" by Ken Walls
great book if u want to know about how MB put itself back on the map of autoracing in 1989 now if someone would be wise and make a book on the 500E/E500 i would love to buy that!!! -Ren |
G-wagen book
Hey Frank,
What G-wagen book do you have? Please tell me the title and author. Do you like the book? If so, I would like one for myself. Thanks, Steve M. 2002 G500 |
Mercedes Horse Hauler
To Frank and anybody else with info,
I was at a horse show a couple of weeks ago and saw a Mercedes truck that was converted or made to haul horses. Does anybody know where I could get info on this vehicle. It was a little older, but I liked it as it eliminates the need to tow a trailer. It appeared to hold 4 horses. The horses enter the truck from the side. Best Regards, Steve M. |
Howdy SteveM,
In regards to the G book I left it at work so I don't know the author but here is the title. Das Grosse Mercedes G-Buch.It is in German. You might be able to get it through Amazon Germany. I got mine through Michael Smith of www.unipaser.com It took a number of months to get. With shipping it was about $40.00 usd from Michael. As for the truck I might be able to find out something through some friends. It sounds like a custom rig based on a Mercedes chassis. While I am checking try searching for Unicat. They build custom rigs based on Unimogs. If you find their website you might see something that looks close. Good luck. |
Howdy Frank,
No books but,a lot of catalogues.:) |
I cannot list all of my books on here about mercedes but there is one I suggest everyone get ( Innovations in automotive technology) by mercedes benz . It was given to me by a friend who is part of upper management of Mercedes . I visited a plant he was at and got a grand tour . I did see the same book for sale at the Tuscaloosa Alabama plant though last year when I went there.:D

Howdy Manny,
Are these Promo catalogs on individual models that you get at the dealers?¿ |
I have that two-volume set that TXBill is talking about...they are SO worth the money! Amazing pictures, tons of info...if you have those you won't need any other MB history/photo books! I got a good deal on them on eBay, but I haven't seen any more on there lately. I've seen them for sale at the dealer, but I don't know how much $$.
I also have the factory service manual for my car (very cool), the Haynes and Chiltons manuals (both largely useless), the 110 Years of Excellence" Bill mentioned (it's OK...some good photos), also the aforementioned "Great Marquees" book (very good), "Mercedes Benz since 1945", by James Taylor (no, not the singer!--good reading, but all black and white photos), "Mercedes Benz-The First Hundred Years (also OK), an old Road & Track magazine with a rave review of the 300SD/W116, and also the dealer sales literature on the full MB line for 79, and also the sales literature for my car specifically (Killer photos and info, found them both on eBay). I also have the service CD for my car, and the EPC software (ssshhh!) Mike |
My brother gave me last christmas the "Mercedes" book from Rainer W. Schlegelmilch. Konemann Edit.
This book is an updated version of the 1997 two-volume publication of the same name. |
