Postal worker, 61, dies after 5 dogs mauled her.....

If she had only had wasp spray or some other means of protecting herself.....

From what I recall, the U.S.P.S. stopped allowing the Carriers to carry any sort of spray protection .

Not that it would have helped when FIVE DOGS were attacking at ponce .

You're just a fountain of cheer, aren't you ? .

You wouldn’t need to deal with all 5. All you need to do is take the dominant dog out and the others will scare off without the alpha

I still would’ve carried some kind of protection. Baton, taser, wasp spray, bottle of hot sauce..pocket of sand and glass. 8 ball in a sock .. something anything

It seems in he majority of these dog mauling cases, the neighbors had prior knowledge of the problem. Sometimes Animal Control is called and as long as the dogs are in a fenced yard, they do nothing (it's in their policy manual....so not their problem, get it?). NEWS UPDATE for the neighbors and Animal Control:

Pit Bulls can climb not only fences, they are also known to climb trees. So.....using our logic circuit here people, normal fencing does NOTHING to stop pit bulls from getting out. Many pit bull breeders know this; they keep their fighting pit bulls on CHAINS anchored to the GROUND.

Red face Wishful Thinking

" You wouldn’t need to deal with all 5. All you need to do is take the dominant dog out and the others will scare off without the alpha"

Apparently you've never dealt with a pack of mean dogs, I have .

Anyways, one cannot expect a 61 year old woman to be ready to fight off dogs .

This is just one more fear mongering post by you-know-whom .

I like dogs but in my line of work one needs to be *very* careful .

Just shooting the damn things is apparently frowned upon, I don't know why .

I don't have 'bad' dogs , my dick isn't that small .

I used to have a Boxer, I don't know how he did it even after watching him do it, he'd sidle up next to my 8' gate, hunker down and !BOING! he'd jump up and *just* get his front paws over the top then he'd pull him self over and go roaming.....

After he managed to un cage and eat my neighbor's bird I gave up and gave him away, more's the pity .

He never barked at anyone unless they tried to climb my fence/gate .

Didn't bite anyone either .

They didn't say, but in the OP it would appear the dogs drug the postal worker out of her postal delivery truck to kill her. IMHO, rural postal workers need larger trucks with doors that shut, not the wide open entry and exits they currently have.

Strange stuff. When I was about eight years old we had a dog that was half Doberman, have Dalmatian.

A couple of times he was barking and growling at the postman like he was gonna pull his throat out. I was hanging onto him, my arms wrapped around him, him doing a vicious bark.

Not long after my mother told me they had taken him to a farm and given him to the farmer so he would have more room to run around. I believed her at the time. That dog could really run, he was like a miniature Doberman with a little bit of greyhound energy going on.

I believe some dogs see the post man or woman as a stranger who is intruding into their space. Still, the dog's owner needs to put a leash on their puppies.....

And then, we have the subject of known violent out-of-control breeds. There are cases where pit bulls have turned on their owners killing them.

We have one dog owner nearby that has four pitbull dogs. No fence, no leash used, big male has been growling if we're near. Grayson county animal control won't come out. Will be ordering bear spray and hope it works.

As much as I love dogs, I'm okay with simply shooting an aggressive dog .

I make DAMN SURE my pups know to stay the hell away from the gate whenever I open it .

That scene in “no country for old men” where he swims across the river and then shakes the water out of his gun is pretty wild. If you’ve seen the movie you’ll know the scene. If not, time to watch it. Great movie.

there is something to taking the dominant dog out. The problem is when a pack of five viscious dogs attack you, you don't have time to figure out which one is the pack leader.

chances are the other dogs will call off the attack if you severely injure just one of the dogs although you may need to give it to two or more of them. Remember, if they attack you and/or your family, it is either THEM or YOU.

On another note, a friend was watching television one day when he heard some commotion in his back yard. Seems two pit bulls had climbed his fence and were attacking his German Sherphard. He grabbed his cross bow and went to the back yard and managed to shoot one of the pit bulls. When the other pit bull saw that his buddy had been shot with a cross bow, he scrambled back over the fence and left......

The USPS issues dog spray when you start, provides a never ending supply to employees on an ongoing basis, and continually checks for its presence in both trucks and on your person, with disciplinary actions if its not present.

Its not pepper spray, and my opinion is that its pretty useless. Maybe that is what you are thinking of, a switch to a milder cocktail. As a former postal worker I have shot the stuff directly into the eyes of a dog and it didn't slow the bastard down for a second.

The only hope for this woman was to get back into her broken truck, and it seems she must have been too far away or too immediately incapacitated.

Awful story.

People really dont realize how fast a dog attack can be. This is a constant menace for postal workers and really any kind of delivery people. Huge numbers of dog owners have zero control over their animals, you get constant alerts about dogs on your scanner as you travel through your route.

I have been attacked twice working as a postal worker. Once as I said I was able to jump back into the truck and spray the dog out the window, with no result. Another time a dog came out from under a bush and bit me through the ankle. I will never forget this incident because I was actually delivering a hockey stick unwrapped with just a shipping label to the dog owner. I was carrying a huge weapon and could not react fast enough to smack the dog at all. It bit and ran.

Talking That Truthy Thing Again

I'm not surprised we'd have a delivery man in here some where....

I agree and tried to explain ~ until you've been attacked by a dog .

When I was little I was that one kid in the neighborhood that always got bitten.

Back then no one cared, the dog owner always would go comfort the damn dog and ignore me, the kids crying and scared .

Unlike husky man I try hard to learn .
