I remember when the Winchester Black Talon came out about 20 years ago. The anti-gun folks were up in arms over the design, which was a more tame version of the above.

The dramatic delivery is a little over the top.

that's "marketing" since they know the mentality of who their target buyer for over-priced ammo is.

still have several boxes of Black Talons. Some I bought, some were given to me by people who feared they were going to be outlawed....

That ammo is a joke, but with a very good marketing department. They have a .300 Blackout load now which is just as lame but well advertised.

I've long thought that the over-the-top dramatic naming conventions endemic to the gun industry are more than a little problematic, and frankly, a bit of a turn-off - I can just imagine a D.A. having a field day should something labeled R.I.P. actually be used in a self-defense shoot. Same with the dumbasses engraving pithy slogans on their weapons or sticking Punisher logos on their 1911 grips.

Not to mention the amount of just complete bull**** in their marketing pitch. Holesaw effect, yeah, I'm sure a bullet spinning with a 1:10" twist rate is going to do a whole lot of holesawing at 1200 FPS

I'll stick with my boring old JHPs, thank you very much.

Black Talon ammo is now being sold as Winchester T- Ranger series ammo. No big deal. All they did was change the name. It was OK ammo for it's day. The stuff in the OP? Pure bullshlt.

About every two years we dig out our berm. Last time we picked up 65 pounds of lead. It went back into the pot and remelted in to cast bullets. No fancy dollar a piece rounds.

At almost twice the price of say a Federal HST round, I would question if it is that much more effective. About the only application I can see is if the shooter is so tiny that going from a 124 grain round to a 96 is that much of a difference. Also some guns are known to have issues with that light a round. I guess I am skeptical

Question is whether the gun you shoot is good with lead or not. There seems to be some debate as to whether polygonal barrels are or are not good with it. Some say that there is more leading, some say it is not true. IDK.

For practice rounds, I'd shoot reloads. It sometimes is a PITA in a popular range because I am kinda finicky about my casings and don't want to pick up a casing that isn't mine. I usually sweep the range if I can so that any casings are mine. This way I can control the stress on the casings. I don't really trust that the last owner of the casing didn't jack up the charge.
