I don't think it's quite the same but may be that's just me. Gerber and mr clean do not seem offensive so far as I can tell. Native Americans have had everything taken from them. To use a term that seems to be associated with hatred as a team name seems incentive at the least. Not like we would accept team names such as Wetbacks, Honkies, N...., Whops,..". ETC.

Why can't people just accept that some folks find this offensive and hurt full and say "OK, let's see if we can't fix it". Why?

I for one am glad but I am not sure if canceling their patent is legal.

The name "redskins" is racist. See the link.

The image is homogenizing, stereotypical, and has been called out by Native American groups. It is also racist.

Native Americans are people, not mascots.

Finally, the idea that "the American Indian is a symbol of honor and courage" is also racist. 1) Ethnic peoples aren't "symbols", 2) "honor and courage" is part of the stereotype of the noble savage, 3) seemingly positive stereotypes are still a form of racism.

I don't see why it would be illegal for the trademark office to opt not to renew a trademark. But if it is illegal, I'm sure we'll find out.

p.s. was the "may" rhetorical? I know some aspects of what I said aren't necessarily obvious, and I'm happy to talk them out and explain my views. I'm also curious about yours.
