Harley Davidson going a new direction with "Livewire"

I think it's great but a bit strange for a company that has been seemingly resistant to change and technology. Definitely will not be popular with the demographic in love with exhaust blare and vibration.

I would buy one.

Project LiveWire

Why does it have to be so ugly though (typical of Hardley Ableson)? Ducati needs to redesign this bike

I'm glad to see they're messing with new to them technology. Maybe in ten years they'll make a bike I'd actually want to buy.

They should call it the Edsel.

The number one destination of Harleys is the bar. Number two is the Harley dealer. Most Harley buyers are buying the image, not a motorcycle.

If I see one sell for salvage I'll probably buy it for parts for another project.

I think it looks great aside from the silly indicator ears

That noise you hear is a pack of very angry outraged bikers coming your way fast, swinging greasy motorcycle drive chains in the air as they advance.

You gonna get stomped for that, and get an azz-whuppin' too.

It will be even WORSE when they first see your Suzuki tattoo.

Harleys are all belt drive now. They last a long time and don't really need any maintenance except for an inspection and maybe retensioning every so often. They don't transfer large amounts of power very well, but that's not a problem since Harley engines don't make much power.

What will they think of my Kawasaki t-shirt?

Harley went with belt drive due to EPA noise limits.

A rare example of something good happening as a result of the stupid noise limits. I don't know why they bother when the first thing many buyers do is put a loud pipe on.

Some guy at school had a dual sport Honda(?) converted to electric. Never was able to figure out who the owner was and ask about its performance and range. Quality work on the conversion. I think it had 3 or 4 12 volt batteries.

I wonder if the typical HD buying schlepper will add a recording of an obnoxious potato-potato-potato exhaust tone? After all, take that away and all you have is a badly built and overly shaking interpretation of what a motor cycle is supposed to be.

But I say Bravo for the innovation. The photos on the HD hide too much of the design and that tells a story of a fearful but daring company. Have any other scooter makers produced and electric? I didn't look but what is the range of the potato-less HD?
