On the other hand, the liability climate in the US for small aircraft makers is pretty nasty as it is. I'm not sure if it should be made worse. There's a certain fear of innovation caused by liability concerns. Compare the light aircraft that Cessna makes today with what's coming out of Switzerland or the Czech Republic.
It's sad that US-made light aircraft don't have features like EFI or electronic ignition that have been common on cars for 20 years. Reliability concerns can be solved by having two redundant systems powered by separate alternators and batteries. Oh yeah, and many aircraft coming out of the US still require leaded fuel, long after this was banned for cars. |
