Mattress Recommendations/Suggestions?

Evenin' All,

I'm in the market for a new mattress.

My current one is a coil spring, pillow top unit. I prefer a good firm or extra firm mattress.

It lasted about 5 years during which the ****ty metal frame failed twice. The first time the legs bent, so I welded square stock steel in place. The second time one of the cross members (there were only 2) split at an attachment point. At that point is threw it out and put the box spring and mattress on the floor.

I also tend to sleep in the same spot so that does not bode well for longevity, even with rotating and flipping.

I was looking on Amazon (cuz why not) and I came across this brand and series of mattresses:

(Note mine is a Full size bed)
http://www.amazon.com/LUCID%C2%AE-Firm-Memory-Foam-Mattress/dp/B0063OQNYO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403648327&sr=8-1&keywords=lucid+14

Anyone have any comments? thoughts? suggestions? etc?

Edit: There really is a forum for everything out there, isn't there?

I just found these two:

I have one of these: http://www.costco.com/Sleep-Science-Dream-8%22-Queen-Memory-Foam-Mattress.product.11737636.html

I roll around on it, so can't comment about sleeping in one specific position and wear, but it seems to have held up well for the 2 years I've had it.

With that said, I wake up every morning with no odd pain, and well rested, so it works...

My $.02, it's harder to "get the job done" on memory foam. There isn't that springyness you have on a normal mattress, so that may be something you need to consider.

Aye I know what you mean with the springyness. Makes me a bit hesitant to go foam route.

Arg.

I stayed at a Hilton over by the Pensacola Airport a week or so ago and it was one of the best feeling mattresses ever. Call them and ask.

Best suggestions: lay on as many mattresses as you can before making a decision. Lay on them for at least 15 minutes.

There is tempur pedic, and there is cheap memory foam. If you want to try a memory foam, let me know and I can order you one on the cheap.

I have a tempurpedic, and I love it. It does start to sag after years, and I'm likely due for a. Replacement soon. Maybe a few more years.

If you find a mattress at one of those mattress stores, look at their "regular price". You should be able to get that mattress for HALF of that, or even less than half. There is a huge markup on mattresses. It's borderline criminal.

As far as the bedframe, you can get a full size with center support. It helps distribute weight throughout and less stress at the corners.

How old is your tempurpedic?

I kind of like just having the bed on the floor, sans frame. I'm not really seeing any reason to keep a frame. I mean I can't imagine it does anything different than my floor is doing other than height difference.

I think I am going to go down tomorrow and see what they have at the one store.

More than 10 years old. Only real issue I have is that it is the "old" memory foam that retains a lot of body heat. The body impressions are minimal.

They make a million different mattresses because everybody is different. You literally have to try a bunch before you can get an idea about what you like. I recommend you try the tempurpedic, it's really expensive, but will likely outlast any traditional innerspring by a factor of 3. Plus, you can't put a price on a good nights sleep.

Yeah this innerspring is..4-5 years.

I'll see what the one store near by has.

That mattress forum is a wealth of information, like PeachParts just for mattresses. lol. They seemed to indicate that tempurpedic was overpriced.

I'm going to give this a read later on tonight

Information Overload.

I might consider something like this, in a custom firmness level...

If you have one near you, I highly recommend The Original Mattress Factory. They make your mattress as you like it. The showroom has all the different firmness levels for you to try out. Then you add a single or double pillow top to it if desired.

The quality of the construction is superior to most name brands. They are not inexpensive mattresses. But they are reasonable considering the quality.

Thanks for the heads up. I pulled up their store locator and its like a bomb went off in my area. They are everywhere but.

Kind of funny in a way.

I think I've settled on a $1K or less budget for this. I mean I could afford more but I can't seem to force the wallet open much further.

I bought a $250 memory foam mattress from amazon. (Free shipping!) on a whim. Best decision I ever made and the best nights sleep I ever had.

This is probably mine as well. I do not like being encapsulated in mattress/foam. I like it to support me. Also I'm not exactly light/thin..so yeah.

I didn't know original mattress factory was nationwide. I believe the factory is only a few miles from my shop. Very good quality stuff.

I'll try and find the link, it is on the soft side. I love it, money very well spent. 250 was for a queen size.
