baking paint?

I painted my vent windows for my 39 Studebaker with rustoleum on Saturday and they are still kindof tacky. Can I bake them in my oven? I remember doing this with some other car parts but don't remember what temp I used. Anybody have advice on this?

Was going to say the same. Why not just go with a low oven (150コF) and see what happens? Maybe buy a turkey tray to bake them in or above beforehand.

p.s. please let us know how it goes! It sounds like a fun experiment.

If 150 is the desired temp try in the trunk of your car, on a 90 degree sunny day, or in the rear seat. going to see 85 around 60 miles N/E of you tomorrow. Then no fumes on dinner that night.

UV light might do it also, box it up to keep it warm. Don't burn the place down

Doesn't that leave a residual smell in the oven? If so, your next meal may inadvertently wind up being Tuna Casserole a'la Krylon...

yes, I have done that and it did leave a bad smell for a bit. I was not very popular that day.

You can often deodorize ovens and microwaves using white vinegar. Heat it up and then turn off the appliance (in a microwave, 30-60 seconds). The steam inside a microwave also makes it easy to wipe it clean after doing it. Anyway, vinegar is an amazing deodorizer and of course it's food safe and not flammable. It will smell vinegary for 15 minutes or so, and then that will be it. Tips for all the bakers/painters!

Are you talking about actual automotive glass? I guess 150 wouldn't hurt it but who knows? Some unknown temp might well bring about unwelcome changes. Methinks you did well to start low. Either that or get some less valuable vent windows at a boneyard and experiment.

Just frames, no glass yet.

Ah. I had visions of painting the glass to make it look like some racer, but that was a sort of a dumb assumption.

From the outside the truck will look stock. The only clue is the wheels and tires that it has completely modern (well as long as you see 1983 as modern) running gear.
