Anyone have any experience with P.O.D.S?
 

PODS= Portable On Site Storage.
Its those units that look like half of the trailer for a tractor-trailer. They bring one to your site, you load it, they pick it up, and either store it, or deliver it to your new house. You unload.

Seems like a good idea---depending, of course, on the cost. I just entered all the requested data to get a quote, and they don't give a quote; they ask you to call.
Well, if I wanted to call, I would have done that in the first place. Still I'm intrigued.
Has anyone here used PODS, and can you comment on their service and costs?

From what I understand, each area is a franchise type operation, so results will vary from location to location. Best bet is to check for experiences in your town.

Business is done on the phone, but they're expeeeeensive! IIRC, a friend got one for around $300/month & transportation.

As an alternative, I've used warehousing places for similar services. Don't know if it fits, but Capitol Warehouse down in Jessiup rented rack positions at $20/mo to lil' old me and didn't mind loading/unloading. The catch was that I had to deliver to them on a pallet, they picked it out of my truck bed no fuss.

x2 on the price. they are amazingly expensive for what they are.

i priced them out when i was having a major job done in my shop and had to empty the space. the pods price is astronomical in comparison. i ended up finding a local fence company that rented 40 and 60 foot containers for 50 to 70 bucks a month, delivered.

before i did business with the PODS people, id explore every local option to make sure there wasnt something similar. a container is a container, im not paying 3 times as much for a smaller container with white paint on it.

Well thats what I needed to know.

Darling Wife and I used ABF coming cross country six years back. You pay per foot of trailer you fill. WAY cheaper than the POD people, but it's intended to be point to point. The do offer storage if I remember correctly, but we didn't need it so I can't comment on pricing or service on that front.

As for the services we did use (drop trailer, pick up when we'd loaded it, transport, pick up when we'd emptied it) they were great to work with.

We were leaving San Diego under the threat if mandatory evacuation thanks to one of their more epic wildfires... all freeways out shut down for days, trailer filled with ash will we were loading, great fun. ABF worked around the chaos and kept us informed.

I'd use them again in a heartbeat.
