Deliberate, I don't see. Now if you have some evidence that they told him to turn left and slammed the door and left him there, I'd say you have a point about the deliberate part. So far, all I see is an accident that should not have happened. Some new protocols, sure. A disciplining of the guards, sure. Hung out to dry? No.
He was inside the fence/wall/bars/cage/perimeter already, then found his way into that high security meeting room/cell. This is not a place with a back screen door to the alley. You don't simply wander out of that hall. He was already in such a location that he would have needed to have a guard let him out, at the point of being directed to wait down the hall, and propably long before then. The entire area is controlled and the responsibility of the guards. Everyone inside is their responsibility, even the visitors. After all they have to be sure the visitors do not harm the inmates. Now, he had an appointment to meet his son. At some point the son is sitting there waiting and says: where's my dad already anyway??? At what point did the guards decide the visit is over: back to your cell never mind your dad checked in a while back but we can't seem to locate him anymore. As soon as they couldn't find him for the meet while knowing full well they had him inside and waiting they should have starting searching. Who shut the door on him? Nobody has made any claim yet that I have seen. I doubt he did it to himself. Could have been as innocent as some guy not noticing the man waiting in there some where and decided it should be closed. I wonder what that room looks like.

Get this; the counties are not known to have the highest hiring standards in place. Sometimes washouts from police academies are given employment opportunities within the prison and jail systems. They'll take everyone elses rejects and give them a job. So why is it any surprise they screwed this one up?

I know someone who used worked for a private sector company; this particular individual showed very little to no incentive in upgrading their skills, i.e. pursuing additional training and/or education and complained constantly about management. They finally resigned their position at the private sector company and went to work for the county government where now their only job is pushing paper around on a desk. They are happy as pigs in slop. Perfect.

Did they teach you that trick in law school? Or, did you come up with it on your own?

"Dream On"

Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

Yeah, I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

Half my life's in books' written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know it's true
All the things you do, come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Sing with me, sing it for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Dream on, dream on, dream on,
Dream until your dream come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on,
And dream until your dream come true
Dream on [7x]

Sing with me, sing it for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing it for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Sing with me, sing it for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing it for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
