Installed a hitch on a BMW today and when it left the shop it was giving me an error code saying it had lost contact with the reverse sensors and backup camera.
The procedure called for the removal of the bumper facia and the only electrical connections that had to be undone was to the reverse sensor harness. I verified that it was reconnected after I discovered this code.

Our shop doesn't see a lot of the German imports so my experience with anything new and not a w116 is sketchy.

Without a compatible scan tool we're limited.

My thoughts are; since the vehicle was started with this harness disconnected, could it be as simple as a code that needs clearing?

That sounds reasonable. Do a reset and see what happens.
