120mph crash test.......ouch
Fifth gear did a crash test at `20 mph with a ford Focus. Not a heck of a lot left after the impact. The damage as expected is quite devastating.

Will a Focus even do 120?
Straight into an immobile barrier at high speed is not a very common crash scenario. Usually the driver will be making some effort to avoid, resulting in a more glancing blow or a lower speed hit. When I was a teenager, I saw the result of a Rolls Royce hitting a pillar under a highway overpass at ~70. The driver, who didn't survive, was elderly and I suspect he was incapacitated before the crash. The only other example of such a crash was when Ayrton Senna lost steering input and hit the Armco nearly straight on at 120. As most people reading this probably know already, that didn't end well either.

I was only able to get a Focus to 102.
What gives?

This isn't so much a check to what the Focus can do speed-wise as it was meant to point out what would be left of a venicle that hits another vehicle at a combined speed of 120mph.
Problem still with this scenario is: ( Mass * > Speed ) will combined with ( Mass * < Speed ) which, probably, will result in less damage to the vehicle at the higher speed -vs.- the vehicle that's traveling at the slower speed, even at a combined speed of 120mph... Bottom line? Don't go hitting anything at any combined speed. Fun to watch though...
