Hug your family...

Go hug your family. You never know how little time you have left.

On April 11, 2002 at 5:32pm, my mother passed away from an inoperable and untreatable brain tumour. Seven weeks from diagnosis. She had been fighting cancer for five years, but this came very quickly, and we barely had time to say goodbye.

Live every day like it is your last.

John,
My deepest condolences to you and your family. Your advice
to live life is 'spot on'. I'm looking forward to a bonding trip
with my father next month which we have delayed for far
too long. We're going gold panning.

Sincerely,
Vaughn Smith.

John-

I am so very sorry for your loss.

Thank you for your words. It's sad that it takes such an event to remind us of the important things in life.

All me best to you and your family.

I'm really sorry for your loss.

I lost my father 3 years ago to multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer).

He lasted 1 1/2 years from diagnosis, and he was only 66 years old, healthy, could've passed for 50 he looked so good.

It's amazing how random (and common) cancer is.

Ever since his passing, I have a constant, acute sense of how short life really is. Even after 3 years, the feeling won't go away. I find myself saying at least once a week to the people around me "life's too short, do it." And I'm only 33 years old (34 in May).

I often wonder why people die the way they do and when they do.

Last week on 60 minutes, they showed a piece on a doctor who treats people with terminal brain cancer, and the aggressive and controversial treatment this doctor carries out. The 30 minute segment showed several people being treated over a several month period. One of the people was an 18 year old girl. None of the treatments were working, and the last clip showed her after brain surgery and radical chemotherapy, and she looked terrible. The doctor was basically telling her and the family the best thing for her to do was to go home. A week or two later she died.

My wife and I almost cried when it was announced (well, maybe we cried a little).

It sure puts life into perspective.

We've been struggling to get pregnant for the last 5 years, and are on our 3rd attempt at in-vitro fertilization, and we'll find out Monday if we're pregnant, but we're not too optimistic. We were feeling sorry for ourselves, but seeing this girl die so young really puts life into perspective for you. We're healthy and we have each other.

So yeah, it's a good reminder to be grateful for what we have, and to hug the ones you love.

Leise and I are very sad to learn of your loss. Our sympathy and prayers are with you and all your family. We hope you can find solace in the fact that she is no longer in pain, and that there was at least some little time to say goodbye.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you John. Both my wife and I each lost one parent to cancer some 20 years ago (her father, my mother). In both our cases, there was the same short window, about 6 months, from diagnosis to the end, so we both have first hand experience with your loss.
