The risk of a recurrent episode is 1:3, the same as the risk of the first episode, so no, you're not immunized.

This is all interesting.
Following a neck/shoulder injury I suffered a few bouts of a shingles like condition. Was told by Neuro Surgeon that it was typical of a nerve injury. I dont fully understand how the vaccine would work. Any one who has come into contact with chicken pox will have the virus living happily along their spine. its normal. When you get a nerve injury or certain stress conditions, the virus wanders down the nerves & the shingles lesions are seen. If the vaccine works, it would be a good thing. Not only are the shingles lesions painful, it make you feel very sick as well.

The most important thing is that you have to believe in it. The doctors hold your hand, look you in the eye, and tell you that you are going to be ok. That is what they are trained to do. They are trained by the drug companies to do this. Your money is used to train the doctors. The drug companies get your money when they give you the shot and run your credit card. This is the way most of our debt-backed, consumer-based economy works.

Before you know it you will be carefree and running happily through flower-filled meadows with attractive young women. Sometimes there are strangely placed bathtubs in the meadows.

You aren't from around here, are you?

If you aren't buying this explanation, there is most likely a drug for that too.

Since I'm reading here where the vaccine won't protect you anyway, why would one want to get it in the first place. Doesn't make sense to.

If the vaccination won't totally protect us, why should we want any of the possible associated risks involved? Is this just a placebo deal getting immunized?

My doctor also mentioned the Pneumonia shot for when I turn 65. Any of you guys' doctors pushing that one?

Tom, ask your Daughter the MD for any knowledge she may have about this Shingles injection, if you would please?

Actually, it's supposed to reduce the risk of getting shingles considerably. Of course it doesn't offer 100% protection, but it does help significantly.

Because the risks are presumed to be negligibly low, and shingles is known to be so awful.

I don't think a 50% reduction in infection could be considered a placebo effect.

My last post was just for fun. I previously posted that I would probably get the shot.

The shot might hurt, shingles definitely hurts a lot more.

I already got my first pneumonia shot.

I have an interesting idea: Instead of querying random people from the internet as to whether or not to follow the advice of a physician who presumably is a medical school graduate and is aware of the current state of your health, seek a second opinion from another physician.

Get the damn shot. My grandma got it when she was in her early 90s. She was in great discomfort (which doctors tried different treatments for to little success) for the remainder of her life.

It's not usually fatal, but the amount of pain involved makes people almost wish it was.

Are you sure doctors are allowed to share their own opinions these days?

I'm sure that in some situations they are limited in what they can say.

I know a woman who had some shingles on her face. Then it went away. From her face.

They attacked the nerve endings inside her body. She was in terrible pain and described it as worse than having a baby.

Her Doctor, and several specialists she saw, told her she had Cancer and recommended a surgery like yesterday. So they opened her up, found nothing, and sent her home to die.

A friend said she might have internal singles. Her Doctors had never heard of it. It turns out that was what she had and now, six months later, she is all better! The medication to cure the singles cost $10 total, so if you can take the pain for months and months and months then when you do break down and decide to take the cure it won't set you back much in the wallet.

If I were you or if I were anybody..... I would get the shot.

The way you write this, it sounds like the shot did Grandma in .

Yeah, I can see that -- no, it was the shingles that made her life miserable, not the shot. To the OP: Get the shot. If you meet someone who has shingles, you'll thank me for the advice.
