Got a new job

So my current position I came across from
A fellow forum member, he's no longer with the company he got me hired on to, which is funny I think.

I had heard the tech ed teacher at my old middle school was looking to quit and move on to other things and that had me interested. The gentleman there now didn't teach me but I'm still friends with my middle school shop teacher and he's in a position higher up with the county so he put a word in for me.

After some informal meetings, a test, paying money for forms....I've been official cleared to be hired. I'm going to be a middle school shop teacher!!!!!

I wanted to go to school for it but not many school teach tech ed but you can't really just go to college for it, it's something you learn from being hands on and involved.

Sure I may be taking a cut in pay but this is what may be my dream job. And at that point, it doesn't matter. My wife has her dream job and loves every minute of it and so will I.

So keep a look out, I might be inquiring about some cool projected related stuff for my class.

Congradulations! What level of equipment are middle school shop class students allowed to handle? What sorts of things will you be doing with them?

Congratulations. June, July, August and a real retirement program. I know, the students are pretty cool too, sometimes.

Plus all govt holidays, hurricane days(that's like snow days), and during standardized testing week I think there are no extra curricular a too. It's a 196 day school year so it's pretty awesome. I might try and get a seasonal job somewhere just to make money on the side A Mog isn't going to just land in my lap for free.

The shop has band saws, scroll saws, a sliding compound miter saw, planer, joiner, table saw, hand tools, and some hand power tools.

When I had shop in middle school we could
Operate everything except the table saw since we weren't big enough to really
Operate it safely.

Very cool, if you're the type of person who loves teaching the experience seems hugely rewarding. My uncle worked many other jobs but always wanted to teach, now that he is an english teacher, he's wondering why he worked other jobs for the last 20 years.

Congrats on the new gig.

Congratulations. That's a great job. The school district here has been closing down shops. Sad and stupid.

Congrats, J! That's awesome. Enjoying what your doing is high on the priority list. As long as it's pays the necessary bills, of course.

Good deal for you!

My son is thinking he'd like to teach at some point too.

Why are so many shop teachers nicknamed "Lefty?"

I'm so happy for you Don. Being a teacher is a great job. My step father was a shop teacher, and due to his frugality and investments in rental property, he retired a semi-wealthy man at age 62 in 1986.

Do you have to have a teacher certification?
