Plan is lay off the town home in the next 5 years hopefully, rent it out and build our dream home and lay that off quickly too so we can buy mor rental properties.

I'll be teaching under a temporary certification until I get certified. The principal had me fill out some forms ($70 processing fee, and $10 for my university to mail transcripts), but once that clears I should be certified.

Congratulations. Seldom does one have the luxury of landing a dream job. A friend of mind says to "figure out what you're interested in and then figure out how to do that for a living. It makes life so much more enjoyable if you want to go to work every morning."

Seems like things are a bit different where you are. Here our district got rid of all the shop classes almost twenty years ago now. Big mistake I think.

Your description of the equipment makes me think of some kid of B grade horror flik Sure it'll be a lot of fun.

Hope all goes really well. I try to inform young guys of what not to do with power tools when working . There should be enough in the budget to get an automatic shut down table saw if the blade sensor detects skin.

Actually mandatory here in any type commercial operation now. I have not seen a band saw yet with this feature but it may be out there as well.

Great advise. After completing my initial internships, that's exactly the way it has worked out for me.

I'm glad to see and read about others getting what they want out of life too.

A humble brag; One of my nieces just completed her initial internship with a major brokerage house - and another niece is getting her dream job starting as an elementary ed. teacher this month. A nephew just started an internship with Apple Computers this month. Great to see them succeed!

My shop teacher scarred the crap out of me with a story about someone who carried a saw ( the old, hand saw, crosscut or rip) in his arm pit. Stumbled and fell and the saw cut tendons etc an the person lost the use of his arm. Never thought to carry a saw that way, but it still makes my arm ache to think about it.

My 36 year old son still blanches at any mention of foreign objects in the eye. Seems he had a pretty graphic film on shop safety.

Haha! My shop teacher had an artificial leg from a saw accident. It wasn't from shop class though.

Edit: yet here i am 15 years later remembering the guy. Teachers are truly the most influential people on someone's life, at least mine.

Any teacher can have a massive influence on young people with the right attitude. I gave a lot of credit to a science teacher I had and another teacher that spent years prospecting in the far north of Canada before starting to teach.

Hard to say what would have happened without their inspiration.
