Range Rover Sport experience(s)?

Anyone have experience with Range Rover Sports?

Interested in the 4.4L non-supercharged variant. Are they complete junk, or are they halfway decent vehicles?

I assume you know what the top gear folks had to say about the first generation.

Nothing "Sport" about them.

Hopefully you're not going for vehicles that dealers usually have high margin on so they can inflate your trade value. LRs are famous for this.

I'm not terribly worried about the Sport not being sporty.

Not buying from a dealer.

Such nice interiors. Such horrendous reputations...

Range Rover always reminded me of an impeccably-tailored Savile Row suit...with buttons which continually fall off...

If you have to have one, you have to have one, but there are other vehicles out there which, while not offering Toyota-like reliability, aren't too bad:

BMW x5, the one with the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8...

Porsche Macan Turbo...

I'm not a big BMW person - my friends Dinan built E90 3-Series and another friends X5 soured my taste for the marque.

Macan Turbo is nice, but not my cup-o-tea. I love the Cayenne, but haven't warmed up to the Macan just yet. With that said, Porsche really did a good job with the Cayenne. When you push it, you damn near forget you're in a 2.5 ton SUV.

Worse - I've found the RR-S that I want on Manheim!

Thanks, but no thanks.

I loathe Carmax.

I'm 6ft tall and it feels cramped behind the wheel. If you have to go Range Rover go all out and take the big daddy. The seats are pretty nice, interior bits feel cheap for a luxury car. I've driven a Range Rover quit a bit and I'm always disappointed after driving a Sport.

I'll just put these here. They're always fun:

Part 1

Part 2

Personally, I'd opt for something else. But since you just missed the auction of the Littlefield Collection, you might not be able to come up with anything as good as Top Gear did.

Ha!

If I listened to the all-mighty Clarkson, I'd be looking at Volvo XC90s.

With that said, he said it wasn't too terrible, but that he would just get the normal full size RR.

OMG that's a good deal! $3k on a warranty on say an S65 AMG, which will probably need about $15k in repairs over the duration!

I love Range Rovers, its the only vehicle I would ever lease. Cheaper and under full factory warranty. To scary to contemplate out of warranty ownership.

Personally they aren't for me.

My main issue is how they drive and handle. It's god awful like a boat on wheels. Two is their reliability. I've heard nothing but stories of disappointment, after disappointment.

If I wanted an SUV, I'd buy the Macan.
