We were drunk...

And decided it would be a good/fun idea to do this:

Yep, made a convertible S10.

If this pans out, were going to try to make a Chevy Astro convertible.

used to know a fisherman who had done that with his S10, he loved it. he did sort of a bad job on the ragtop he arranged for it though. maybe a jeep style removable hard top is the way to go. if you keep the steel section you removed, reinforce it, and make it bolt on.

gonna do a roll bar? looks good so far. a roll bar would stiffen up the cab and make this a hell of a lot safer

there is a thread on the astro forum where a guy made a pickup out of his astro and another where someone cut the whole roof off to do accident repair, ill see if i can dig it up

Man, when that guy sobers up and sees his S10 he is going to be so pissed at you. Where did you learn to do that? It is so 1980s, were you even born in the 80s?

I seem to recall an episode of Top Gear where the Lads made a ragtop out of a van.

It didn't go well, but then it was said to be done in one evening. The cutting of the roof went OK, but the long ragtop did not hold up to the wind very well.

IIRC, the Top Gear boys ran it through an automatic car wash, where the top promptly fell apart, jamming some of the car wash equipment, which even more promptly caught fire.

I call that a can-opener convertible.

I haven't completely ruled out hacking the top off of my Suburban. Once funds for a foolish purchase, such as a roll cage for a Suburban, are in place. :)
