He protests too much and the article comes across an emotional problem parading as credible review.

He probably drives a Toyota.

I have noted that G wagons from about MY 2000 to 2003 have gone up in value since ‘08-‘10. The current prices are in the $30K to $35K range where in the pit of the recession they were in the high teens.

I should have bought one during the recession then.

1. There's a lot of truth in the article but it reads as immature and whiny.

2. There seems to be a good market for performance SUV's and naturally, they're going to be a serious compromise of power, handling and comfort.

3. He's right about the "in your face" aspect. Certainly there's nothing wrong with having money and getting nice things but this thing is all about showing it off - the looks, the exhaust and even the horn! Again, there's a market for that. I believe that in many cases, the personality that drives a person to be successful, also drives them to own things like this.

I was in Fort Worth with the wife a few weeks ago and we parked next to one of these in the Parkside area. She was not impressed. When I told her what they cost she said I could buy her a used Rolls and a Mitsubishi Montero if I wanted to blow that kind of money.

I'd do it but I don't like Mitsubishi's.

Did you know the original design specs for what became the Jeep said the hood had to be wide enough to carry two stretchers?

I don't know if any of them were ever used for that, but that's why the hood is longer than it needs to be.

Let's see you do that with your G-Wagen!

That was fairly entertaining yet probably consistent with the perspective of many mechanics.

But they have been known to hold their owners hostage and use mechanics and SAs as negotiators.....

Side to side, across the hood.

But think about this. You are laying there, wounded, bouncing around and then you begin to wonder.... Why is my back so hot? I guess it would be better than walking.

Like I said, I don't know if anyone ever tried this, but that was a part of the original design specs.

And the Windshield folds down because it is hard to shoot through the glass or to see through the shot out glass. I can see where in the real world you would be going so slow you would not need a windshield so it would be in your way, but when you did hit a real road it would be nice to have.

Top speed was supposed to be 45 mph, but given the roads of the day in the US this might have seemed reasonable. 'Why would anyone want to go any faster' was probably asked during the design phase.

An old military saying is that no plan survives the first moments of combat.

I would add that there is no limit to the uses soldiers in the field can come up with for their equipment.

A case in point.....

During the Normandy invasion it was found that the hedgerow country was difficult to move through. Too many hedgerows and no way to clear them.

But some guy came up with a solution: Weld lengths of steel angle iron to the front of a tank in a sawtooth pattern and use the tanks to cut the hedges down.

But where did they get the angle iron? From the traps the Germans set up on the beaches to cut the bottom out of the landing craft. After all, the Germans no longer needed them and they needed clearing out anyway.

Good old Yankee ingenuity.
