I really like this cloud formation shot: Plenty more good stuff: Monsoon causes flash flooding, power outages across Valley - ktar.com

You do get some interesting looking cloud formations around here. I've taken a few shots myself that I'm rather happy with. One quite similar to that first pic. Maybe I'll see if I can scare them up and post them. Really enjoying the rain by the way. Hope it's not over yet.

I'm enjoying the break today. Rain is a pain in the butt for me. I love it for the grass for grazing and the trees, but not for the mess it makes and the work it causes. Flies, humidity, rampant weeds, unhappy livestock hurting each other fighting over dry space in the barns. I spent two hours yesterday in the downpour sewing up a torn udder on one of my best does who managed to get pinned against a fence by another one in a fight. We got three inches in this last pulse. I suppose it would be pleasant to sit on the porch and watch it rain if it didn't cause so much other grief. Besides, extended cloudiness makes me crabby. Always has.

50% chance of rain in Philly tomorrow. Never liked the rain, because I hate cutting the grass.

I grew up in southern NM and I remember those flash floods. I used to love those days. You could smell the rain 2 or 3 hours ahead of time. And when it started, the first rain drops would make circles on the sidewalk an inch or two in diameter.
My dad's folks lived in Duncan, AZ, just across the border from Lordsburg, NM. As a wee lad, I used to love the road between the two as about every few miles would be a sign that read "DIP." Pretty sure these were arroyos for the runoff from flash floods of this sort. It was a roller coaster ride for me. Gave me the tinglies in my tummy.

I have two loafing sheds for the goats, one big one for the sheep, two 6 stall barns for the horses. My pasture soil is the problem. It's very very fine alluvium. Basically silt. It turns into pancake batter with more than an inch of rain. Drainage is in place but it doesn't make any difference. The horses, sheep and few cows do fine, they don't mind the rain or the mud. The goats are a different story. Buncha prima donnas. Goats HATE rain about as much as I do. They have plenty of room in their sheds, but the dominant does beat up the subordinates and throw them out in the rain. If it's wet enough the outcasts will decide to fight their way in, then all hell breaks loose. Only my bucks get off easy. The boys have their own pasture and shelter.

I'm sure it's different for you. I'd be happy for more of them drops up your way to find their way down here. Unfortunately while we get some for the most part the storms are always way north and east of us. I watch them on the weather radar but so far my rain dance mojo ain't working for us down here in Avondale.

This was an interesting event. We got rain for sure, but the heaviest rain fell south of the Verde River, so our own local streams weren't affected much at all. The Verde did spike a bit last night. The Agua Fria, north of Phx and normally dry, spiked at over 40K cfs. A historical record. Serious water. 40K cfs is Grand Canyon sized water.
