Exclamation "Rock and Roll is here to stay"... Big 6.1 earthquake in Northern California

Four seasons in Nor Cal : "mudslides, earthquakes, wildfire, riots"

Not fun. I survived the 7.1 quake when I was living in San Francisco back in 1989.

This time, the epicenter was near the Napa wine country.

I am in Northern Nevada now and slept through it all, but reports seem to say almost all of Nor Cal felt it.

My brother lives in that area and I hope he is ok. Too early in the morning to call him yet.

Kind of happy I wasn't in my house in Northern California but with my fiance in Nevada just now.

SANOMA, Calif. (AP) — Officials say an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 has been reported in California's northern San Francisco Bay area.

Leslie Gordon of the U.S. Geological Survey says it struck at just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday about 10 miles northwest of American Canyon, which is about six miles southwest of Napa. The USGS says it's the largest earthquake to shake the Bay Area since the 1989 6.9 magnitude Loma Prieta quake.

The shaking set off car alarms and had residents of neighboring Sonoma County running out of their houses in the middle of night. Officials say widespread power outages have been report in Sonoma County.

The USGS says the depth of the earthquake was just less than seven miles, and numerous small aftershocks have occurred in the Napa wine country.

It was only a 6... meh

Its nice to see earthquakes are scaring people away from California. We can definitely do with less people.

Remember that there's a ~12x difference in power between 6.0 and 7.1. Logarithmic scale.

^ That's what I heard. Ouchie.

I'm in Redwood City, about 20 miles south of SF. I couldn't sleep that night/morning so I got up to get some of my breakfast and lunch laid out. All of a sudden my garage door started making a huge racket. At first I wondered if I'd startled an intruder who was trying to get out. But then it got louder and sounded like 10 guys were running around on my roof. In all my scrambling around to see what was going on, I didn't actually feel the shaking with my feet, but my house damn sure did. No damage or breakage that I've discovered yet.

In Napa, a 12 year boy had a chimney, or parts of it, fall on him. Damn. Prayers, good wishes, etc.

A friend has a few businesses out in Napa and had to shut them down - no water at one location, and no electricity at another.
