Arizona Jumps Into the Lead Again, Armed and Crazy

Director at Barrow Neurological Institute arrested with rifle at Sky Harbor

Police said Steinmetz was first observed buying a cup of coffee in the airport with the gun slung over his shoulder. They said Steinmetz walked to the eastern end of the third-level lobby and stopped in front of the B gates.

Nothing unusual about a guy buying a cup o joe at the airport . . .

Sounds like the woman thinks the muzzle 'swept' their position while he was taking it off the shoulder. Is this going to come down to angles measured on video tape to see if in fact the barrel ever lined up?

Suppose it was on his back and he bent over to pick up a dropped ticket for her?

Any gun is always pointing somewhere.

'Wanted to make a statement about the right to bear arms.'

Holy Shi-ite batman. Guns make some people crazy. Even neuro-scientists.

You know, I'm a fairly staunch supporter of the second amendment and the individual right to bear arms (or to arm bears, whichever it is), but allowing individuals to carry firearms in an airport (even outside the secure area), particularly in an age where we are otherwise hyper-crazy conscious of airport terminal security, is just nuts.

It's about like putting the pedophile clinic right next to the grade school or having AA meetings in the pool room at the local tavern: you're just asking for trouble.

A short-sleeve denim shirt worn over jeans? They'd laugh him out of LaGuardia...

Nothing as long as he kept it holstered and didn't try to board a plane or get past the magic security line. AZ is an open carry (read: douchebaggery is not a crime) state.

Maybe he thought he was in Starbucks.

Open carry of rifles is just dumb. These guys are doing more harm than good.

And every time he moves he 'sweeps' all the people behind him. Just like the guy who supposedly swept the lady in this story.

If I was a Cop or TSA agent I'd confront and take him down immediately.

His holster hides whether or not his weapon is "open". You can say sorry afterwards, which is preferable to apologizing for not having reacted.

And I'd agree with doing nothing. They just gave the guy exactly the publicity he wanted. He was no more of a danger in the airport than in any other crowded venue where open carry is permitted by law.

Ummm... What do you mean about his holster hiding his weapon being "open"? I'm a bit confused.
