Who owns a boat- type and where do you boat?
Hi everyone - we all have an affinity for our MB's that's why we visit this web site. However, just wondering how many of us own a boat- what kind and where do you boat?
We have a Cobalt 226 with a 7.4mpi Bravo III drive and mostly boat at our summer place in Three Rivers Michigan. thanks in advance 3pointstar

Hey, Cobalt is a super nice boat. I have owned the following:
1960 14' fiberglass fishing boat - unknown brand with 10 HP Honda engine 1961 14' Steury fiberglass runabout - 40 HP Evinrude outboard with pull start! My first "ski" boat. 1988 15' K-craft "Needlenose" An outboard drag boat with a 150HP Mercury 6 cylinder. Most impractical boat ever, it would nearly sink when you came to a standstill. It was a lot of fun though. 1976 18' Glasstron - Tri hull, 120HP Mercruiser. This boat was a lot of fun because it was like a car, back it in, twist the key and go. Ran great, good economy. 1985 19' Stingray - V-hull, 140HP Mercruiser. Another really fun, practical boat. I would run 53 MPH which I thought was pretty good for a 4cyl. I just used the boats for pleasure, cruising the lakes and waterways, pulling skiers and inflatables. North Carolina likes are often shallow (at least locally) and I got kind of sick of bottom strikes and losing props so I lost interest. Probably would still own something with a jet drive or a pontoon/deck boat, maybe in the future at some point.

Got a lot of boats. About 12 canoes, 5 kayaks, a 16' Avon Pro river raft, a 26' Voyager sailboat (for sale) a 24' F-24 Corsair Trimaran and a Sea Pearl 21 Trimaran. Use them all around the continent, most recently a two week cruise with the F-24 in the North Channel of Lake Huron.

I canoed that section back in the 70's. I remember Skinner's Falls but not much else.

Never again.
Bought a few watercraft against the advice of a few members here whom I respect, and learned my lesson.

I had the K-Craft and the Glastron out in the open Atlantic ocean. Going out from the sound isn't too bad but you have to avoid the breakers on the way out. If you don't hit them hard enough, the wave will try to flip you over backward, lots of negative trim and power to keep the nose down. The K-Craft could literally punch through the wave and pop out the other side - Massive air! That boat was hand made, all fiberglass mat laminated with balsa wood. It was impossible to break in the water.

On my third pontoon boat. It's a custom wrapped Bennington pontoon with a Honda 115.
Also have a 2001 Seadoo GTX. Previously owned a couple of older Seadoo's. Also previously owned a 1990 Regal Valenti 19' bowrider with a 4.3L V-6. Live on a large (35 mile long x 14 mile wide) beautiful lake so we boat every free moment.

It wasn't the maintenance that was expensive, it was operating costs! My skis were ~$150 to fill (15 gallon tanks on each, plus 3 additional 5 gallon tanks) plus launch fees ($10 to get my truck in, then $10 for each ski). Easily made for a $200 outing, after you add in the cost of fuel for the truck. The Malibu was a little cheaper - cost ~$160 to fill, and was $10 cheaper to launch than the skis. But... When you throw a skier on the back and fill up the ballast sacks, it starts eating fuel.

The view from the river hasn't changed much. Dept. of Interior/National Park Service has done a good job of managing/maintaining the park. it's hard to believe your in NJ
