I am sorry, but my favorite rear engined vehicle is the Volkswagen Type 3, especially the Squareback. I have hung onto her despite her issues.

I have to only love wagens because I have to have the space to haul the Service Dog and what ever else I want to haul. ;) A hatchback be a compromise.

But, since no one mentioned it, which surprises me, how about a rear engined Škoda?

I would own a Škoda just because, but also not too terrible; the main issue in the early days was rust.

That Wartburg 311 was originally front-engine, with front wheel drive - based on the prewar German DKW.

I'm strangely attracted to Dauphines, and I like the Fiat 600, but both are tiny, tinny, under-powered, and horrible rusters.

My favorite rear engine car is the Corvair.
The 1965 generation for it's improved engineering & styling. (As one auto writer put it "The kind of cars we should have had in the '70s, but didn't!")
The '61 - 62 Lakewood station-wagon for it's extreme rarity (When was the last time you saw one?)

Least favorite (based on bitter family experience) the 1970 VW Squareback.

If you like the Warburg 311, you should watch the recent Polish film Ida. A Wartburg is featured prominently in the film.

Do radically modded vehicles count here?
I don't think a rear-mounted Subaru drivetrain was an original Wartburg factory option.
If that one still had the original 3-cylinder, two-stroke FWD powerplant in the front,
it would be a dual-engine, 4WD!

If you want a big engined Car Ferrari always built one that thunders. ONe with a big stonking v12, however I have no interest in such a huge thirsty complicated Car. Give me small nimble and lovely.

I was living in Dallas when this 'car' was being touted. 'She' was on a lot of local talk shows and it was clear to anyone who knew anything about autos that Liz was making it all up. I remember when an engineer called in and asked some simple but highly technical sounding questions concerning body rigidness and Liz came back with, "I don't have those figures in front of me."

After a few more answers like that one and you could tell from the tone of voice the talk show host was beginning to become a non-believer.
